Netbook News

Welcome back everyone! The year has started off with a bang with a lot happening in the Digital Technology department. As always, there are a lot of technical requests after a holiday break so we ask that everyone please be patient whilst the demand for network assistance and Netbook repairs is high.
Year 7s and Other New Students Needing Netbooks
All of the pre-scheduled Netbook Training and Distribution sessions are now completed. The sessions ran well and now there are many new students beginning to use this powerful tool to assist their learning. Any new students who have signed up for the Netbook Program and who do not yet have a Netbook should have their parent/guardian contact Ms Ramos via email at sramos@greensc.vic.edu.au to schedule a time. Anyone who has not yet joined the program but would like to, should also contact Ms Ramos for details on how to join.
Year 10s – Collecting New Netbooks
The new Netbooks have started being distributed to this year’s Year 10 students; however, there are still a number yet to be collected. For those who have opted in to the Netbook program, the following needs to occur in order to collect the NEW Netbook:
- Collect/print two forms – the AUA (Acceptable Use Agreement) and Netbook Usage Policy Agreement* - from David, the Netbook technician, or Ms Ramos, the Digi Tech coordinator, or from the College website.
- Have the forms signed by both the student getting the Netbook and a parent/guardian.
- Bring the two forms to school, along with your OLD Netbook, in its case and with its power cord to David in the Library AT LUNCHTIME, BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL ONLY.
- Login to the Netbook before you leave the school grounds or it will not work for you when you get home.
David is available from 8 am - 12pm and 12:30pm - 4 pm most days. The old Netbooks will be wiped of all departmental software and when they are ready to be picked up it will be posted on Compass News at a later date.
Unclaimed Re-imaged Netbooks from end of 2016
There are a number of students still needing to collect their Netbooks after they were re-imaged at the end of last year. If this is you, please try to collect them at recess, lunchtime or before/after school. Note that all Netbooks will need to go through the login process (which may take up to 10 minutes) before it will work on the college network. This also means you will have to login to your Netbook before you take it home or it will not work at home.
Netbooks Needing Repair
There have been a number of students experiencing network connectivity issues since their return. If your Netbook is not connecting to the network or if it is in need of repair, please take your Netbook to David, the Netbook technician. He is available from 8am until 4 pm (excluding between 12:00-12:30). Students may be sent up to David during class times at the discretion of the teacher to report any damage or software issues.
Wireless Network Blackspots
There have been some classes that have been experiencing intermittent network drop outs in certain classrooms. Investigations into this issue are ongoing but it is suspected that the increase in student smart phone use in the College could be a contributing factor. We remind students not to use wireless hotspots from their phones whilst at school. They are still welcome to use mobile data on their phones to access Compass if needed. Not using wireless hotspots is part of the Acceptable Use Agreement under the ‘Student Agreement’ section that all students and parents/guardians must agree to in order to have access to the College network and digital systems. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this matter.
