Boarding

I am very excited that the winter sports are back and I enjoyed getting around and seeing lots of boarders playing both hockey and footy on the weekend. Seth Fiegert is now into his second year playing A Grade for the Hamilton Kangaroos and had a great game against Koroit at Melville Oval. The Under 16s Magpies had a huge win at Pedrina on Sunday with Connor Hunter and Fergus Roberts showing little rust after their time away in China. It was also great to see Wes Gray make his debut for this team with a very good game. Fergus backed up and walked straight from footy to hockey where the A Grade Men’s team played their first game. I know lots of boarders traveled home and played for their local teams and unfortunately I don’t always hear these results. I do know that Lachie Craig kicked four goals in his first game back and that Tyler Hateley made the best for Harrow/Balmoral.

A group of boarders woke up early on Wednesday to attend the Hamilton Anzac Day Dawn Service. It was a moving and sombre occasion but it was a lovely thing to do as a boarding group and I was proud of everyone who attended. We also had a group of boarders who marched in the Anzac Parade and Toby Hawthorne and Claudia Roberts laid a wreath on behalf of the College. Sami Zehir and Alec Jagger were also both involved in ceremonies in their home towns.

A group of boarders headed to Mount Gambier on Wednesday for a day of shopping and paintball. I made the big mistake of joining in on the paintball and am now sporting many welts and bruises. Surprisingly some bruises are on my back where my own teammates Charles Cain and Harry Beal ‘accidently’ shot me with friendly fire. It was a great day with a really nice group of young people.

I am really looking forward to the musical this week and especially seeing the boarders perform on stage after all the hard work they have put in. Keep an eye out for Alec Jagger playing drums and Marcus Chu and Jarman Oakley for all the work they do behind the scenes as part of the sound and production team.
