Year 9 China Experience

I am writing this article having just returned from the 2018 China Experience. I must say what an extraordinary experience it is to travel for a month with our Year 9 students, staff and parents. I would like to express special thanks to Dr Arvind Garg, Dr Nidhi Garg and Dr Alasdair Sutherand who joined the group this year. Special thanks to staff: Mr Paul Carroll, Ms Yang Liu and Mrs Erica James. Without their support this trip would not be possible. We are grateful to Gaoyou Middle School, who welcomed us with open arms once again this year, and Premier Towns Travel who organised the touring component of the trip.

Our current Year 9 students have made the most of their time in China and accepted each challenge with a positive mindset. They quickly adapted to their new surroundings and embraced the Chinese culture and people. They missed their families and friends, but reflected on the importance of strong relationships in their lives. Spending so much time together as a group allows students to bond and grow closer to each other; new friendships are made and the group becomes a close and cohesive team. Over many years, I have come to realise that China broadens students' horizons and pushes them out of their comfort zones, makes them stand on their own feet and they develop resilience. There is no doubt many advantages of introducing students to international travel, and the travel skills they develop, will enhance their adult lives.

The China Review will be held on Wednesday 9th May 5-6:15pm, in the Simons' Auditorium, MPAC. Families and friends are most welcome at the China Review.

I am incredibly proud of our Year 9 students who travelled to China, and I know your parents are incredibly proud too.
