We have had a fantastic start to the sporting year!
It is fabulous to see that student passion for sport and competition continues to increase every year with participation numbers on the rise all the time. Sport, health and physical education is a very important area of student education. Not only do students learn healthy habits around their own physical wellbeing, they also have the opportunity to develop physical, leadership, responsibility, discipline and teamwork skills - all of which are carried through across all areas of their learning and college life.
Junior Interschool Sport
Year 7 & 8 Interschool Sport Day (held at the end of Term 1) was a huge success. One hundred and thirty (130) Year 8 students and 159 Year 7 students participated in the program - representing the school in Cricket, Volleyball, Tennis, Baseball and Softball. All teams displayed excellent sportsmanship and spirit, proudly representing Brunswick Secondary College.
Both Year 7 and 8 Boys’ Baseball teams were successful victors on the day. They now progress through to the Regional level which will be contested early in Term 3.
Regional Swimming Competition
During the last week of Term 1, three Brunswick students represented the college at the Regional Swimming Finals held in at the WaterMarc complex in Greensborough.
Year 9 student, Jimmy Hancock, and two Year 7 students, Luca Amore and Imogen Cohen swam their best representing BSC. We are very proud of their efforts and it was great to see their hard training reflect excellent results.
Showing real commitment, both Luca and Imogen chose to delay their attendance at the Year 7 Camp in order to take part in the regional competition.
Intermediate Interschool Sport
In the second week of this term, our Intermediate Girls and Boys Volleyball teams competed at the Regional Finals at the Darebin Sports Centre.
Competition is always very strong at this level and it was terrific to see both our teams be really competitive - especially when none of our students play the game outside of school.
Unfortunately the boys went win-less on the day - but not for want of delivering tough competition. They were unlucky to lose in very close encounters with both Glenroy Secondary College and Craigieburn Secondary College. The girls team won their match against Macleod College but were defeated in their other pool matches.
Both teams showed terrific fight and determination throughout all their games and can be congratulated on their terrific sportsmanship.
Division Athletics
Well done to the 28 students who represented BSC at the Division Athletics Carnival on May 3.
This event was staged at the Collingwood Athletics Track.
All the BSC students did their best on the day against some very strong opposing schools. A big congratulations to the students below who qualified for the next stage at Regional Athletics!
