Remote learning in Food Studies

Claudia Johnson

Assistant Principal

Due to remote learning, the Food Studies teachers of the Year 8 and Year 9 students are providing recipes for students to cook at home. These recipes have been selected so that they generally use common, readily available ingredients and can be adapted to suit.

Students are encouraged each week to prepare a lunch, dinner or snack for their family,  using resources already in the home. (Of course, there are other options for learning if it is not possible for students to complete this task.)

Students upload one preparation photo and one finished product photo (ideally taken on a clean bench!) to share with their class and teacher.

All students have completed tasks relating to kitchen safety and hygiene and we expect students to complete the clean up procedures that they are accustomed to - clean up while cooking, wiping down benches and sinks, putting away clean dishes, returning unused foods to the pantry and fridge, and placing dirty tea towels in the laundry. Students do this amazingly well in the Food Room back at school so we hope that parents and carers are impressed by their skills.

Even more, we hope you are all enjoying cooking at home with your children!
