SPORT REPORT

INTERMEDIATE CRICKET STATE FINAL
The Intermediate Cricket team travelled to Balwyn as one of only four teams left in the SSV Cricket Competition. In our Semi-Final we played Emmanuel College Warrnambool and after batting first we made 112 off our 20 overs. Tim Mullane was the top scorer with 32, assisted by a very valuable 21 not out from James Robertshaw towards the end of the innings. In reply, Emmanuel College were in early trouble at 3/5 with Josh Meyer inspired with the ball and in the field. They finished with 104 but never really recovered from the early onslaught.
In the Final we played Notre Dame Shepparton. Unfortunately we played our worst game for the year in the Final. Batting first we were in huge trouble at 6/15 but managed to recover to finish with 100 off 20 overs. Ben Chapman found form again to post 41 and James Robertshaw again contributed very well with 31. In reply Notre Dame showed their class and chased down our mediocre score quite easily to pass us only 3 wickets down and with 4 overs to spare.

INTERMEDIATE GIRLS CRICKET 2015 STATE CHAMPIONS
On Friday 13 November McKinnon’s Intermediate Girls Cricket team travelled to Oak Park to play in the State Semi-Final and Final.
We played Buckley Park in the morning batting first with Grace MacKay 28 not out and Jemma Owen 28 top scoring in a total of 131. We then dismissed Buckley Park for 40 with Melina Ayres taking 4 for 5.
This meant we qualified for the State Final in the afternoon against Norwood. McKinnon again lost the toss and were sent in making a huge total of 3 for 138 with Melina Ayres making 83 and Jemma Owen 20. Norwood then batted and made 8 for 107 with Grace MacKay taking 2 for 7 and Kira Brooks 2 for 30.
A fantastic effort for the team who won the State Championships!

On Thursday 19 November the Year 8 Softball Team competed at the School Sport Victoria State Softball Final.
The girls trained hard in the run up to the finals and this work paid off. Their first game was against Wodonga who they defeated 14-2. The girls played exceptionally well throughout the final, having 3 innings where Sunbury were unable to score any runs, however, were just defeated 6-3 in a nail biting innings, making them second in the State.

YEAR 8 GIRLS TABLE TENNIS STATE FINALS - RUNNERS-UP
Congratulations to the Year 8 Girls Table Tennis team on coming Second in the recent State Finals.
The team did extremely well just to make it to the State Finals, winning the Southern Metro Region Finals without their top two players, after number one player Ashleigh Hoffman broke her foot on Year 8 Camp and number two Bianca Denisenko fell ill on the morning of the tournament.
Despite missing their top two players they still managed to win through with the help of gun recruit Sades Kyrou who was drafted onto the team literally as the bus was leaving school to ensure the girls had four players to make up the team.
In the State Finals the girls played extremely well throughout the day, finishing on top of their pool against Thornbury and Warnambool, then comfortably defeating Irymple Secondary College in the Semi Final four rubbers to two, with some crafty serving and punishing forehands.
In the Final the girls came agonisingly close to taking out the title against Bayside College. After the six matches both teams were tied on three rubbers each, however on count back Bayside were the winners, having won a total of twelve sets to McKinnon's nine.
Congratulations to Bianca Denisenko, Ashleigh Hoffman, Luciana Martinez, Sades Kyrou, Anna Chapman and Gemma Brandman on their fantastic achievement.

YEAR 8 GIRLS LEADERSHIP FORUM PRESENTED BY SSV AND CRICKET VICTORIA
We were invited to attend the Girls Leadership Forum at Melbourne Girls College on Monday 23 November. The day started with a presentation by Matti Clements, a senior psychologist about the power of a growth mindset instead of a fixed mindset. We then workshopped the importance of resilience when being a leader. This was followed by an awesome discussion panel with Meg Lanning, Captain of the Australian Southern Stars who recently won the Ashes series in England. Meg is currently ranked No 1 batter in the world in both one day and T20 cricket. Also on the panel was Mel Jones, who played 5 test matches and 61 one day internationals for Australia and Steph Prem, 5 x Australian snowboard cross champion. She is the only female to represent Australia in snowboardcross at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
L-R: Mel Jones, Steph Prem and Meg Lanning
The panel discussed that leadership can be without having a title; strategies to face setbacks and females in the media.
Our final two workshops focused on how your values affect your lifestyle and what makes a good mentor. We then finished with a game of cricket with lots of new friends. It was an educational and productive day.
Thanks to Mrs Hooper and the school for giving us the opportunity. We are looking forward to watching the WBBL in December. Go Melbourne Stars!
