Swimming carnival

We had another fantastic turnout this year at our annual swimming carnival despite a few showers and clouds in the morning. The pools were full all day with swimmers in the main events vying for a place in the division finals and others just having some fun in the novelty events. Highlights of the day included the annual and very competitive VCE volleyball showdown, as well as Mr  Hasseldine’s incredible belly flop, BIG splashes. Thank you to our musical cast members who offered delicious cakes and musical melodies throughout the day.

Unfortunately, it was not all good news for the students,  with the teachers taking an easy victory in the relay race. Congratulations to the teachers! Stay tuned for the Year 12 versus staff race at Athletics Carnival in Term 2.

2020 House Leaders

Announcing the winners – elated McCubbin leaders, shattered Streeton leaders!!

The next stage was the Division Swimming & Diving event  held at Aquanation in Ringwood on the 5 March. Mr  Mangonis took 30 eager students to compete against the best swimmers from other schools in our area for a chance to go through to the EMR Regional Finals. Our students had a blast and came away with some successes.

Congratulations to Keira Tait  (9F) who was awarded the Age Group Champion for coming first and scoring the most points in all of her events at the Division event.

Good luck to Keira, Judy, Ben, Cora, Ava and Mairna who came first in their races and will progress onto the EMR Region Finals on 24 March. You have already made Koonung so proud!

House Cross Country

Today we held our House Cross Country Carnival. Keep an eye out in our next newsletter for results.

House Athletics Carnival

The Koonung House Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday 1 May (week 3, term 2) at Hagenauer Reserve, Box Hill. Students are to come to school and attend period 1 class for roll marking, their teacher will then walk with them to the venue. Students should wear their Koonung PE uniform and are permitted to wear a coloured t-shirt that represents their house. There will be a sausage sizzle at the event but please also bring lunch, snacks and water for throughout the day as there is no canteen available. Please remember that non-attendance to whole school carnival events will result in students being unable to participate in Inter-School Sport teams and optional camps.

Looking forward to another fantastic house carnival, see you all there!
