Poetry – Express Yourself!

You may have noticed a real ‘poetry’ buzz around our school at the moment…everyone is having a go at both reading and writing poetry – even our staff!

For thousands of years, humanity has sought expression through the language of poetry. Ancient poets explored concerns that we still have today – love, loss, nature, family…the list goes on. Poems were originally recited from memory – then written down for future generations. It is amazing to read words written so long ago that can apply to our lives today!

Poetry provides a way to express things that can be difficult to convey. Producing poetry can be a very healthy exercise in boosting our overall well-being; sharing it with others can also be helpful. There is a freedom and emotional connection that comes with the beauty of poetic language – for me, the ‘best’ poems make me feel something – even if I don’t know what or why!

Tune in to the ‘poetry’ buzz! Have a go at reading, writing, or even reciting, a poem…or check out our work here at school.
