REA Excursion

On Friday June 15th, the REA Group (Real Estate Australia) played host to 30 aspiring year 9 technologists for an "Hour of Trailhead" / Industry Visit, and what a day it was!

The students had their eyes opened by the REA story and, for the first time, gain exposure to a truly state-of-the-art agile development environment, which was an amazing site to see. Other highlights included the technology exhibits (I don't believe some of them had ever seen a Nokia mobile phone before), the experience lab and time spent in the dog and gaming friendly ‘garage’ area.

Hampton Park has been working with Salesforce for the industry visit / hour of code program for the better part of 3 years now, and it can safely be said that this event was easily the most inspirational and impactful of any we've run to date.

Be The Change

On Thursday June 14th, our school community held the 3rd Annual Be the Change expo evening with our Year 9 students advocating for a wide variety of Not-for-Profit organisations. The night was a great success and our students certainly did the school proud through their work and conduct on the night. Many parents and guests mentioned to me how impressed they were with the passion and extent of knowledge that students demonstrated about their chosen organisations and the quality of presentations on display.

As with events of this size there were many people who contributed to the success of the evening that I would like to extend my thanks to on behalf of the Humanities Domain and the wider school community.

Congratulations the following students who were judged to have the best presentations on the night

Year 9 Science

In Term 2, the Year 9 Science team has been undertaking a series of investigations based around the periodic table. Students have been taught how to read specific parts of the periodic table, including the atomic number and mass number to determine the number of electrons, neutrons, and protons in an element’s Bohr diagram.

Participants have also completed a series of experiments based around acids and bases, pH, and their effects on indicators and other materials. 9P has tested for hydrogen using a pop test, carbon dioxide using a limewater solution and neutralisation using pH indicators.

Raven Writers

Do you enjoy writing short stories? Maybe poetry is more your thing? The Raven Writers are a group of HPSC students who meet in T8 every Monday lunchtime. We eat, drink hot chocolate and write! We plan to make regular ‘zines’ so your writing will be available for the school community.

Ask Ms Emery if you have any questions.
