Yr 12 Study Skills Camp 2018

On Monday the 5th and Tuesday the 6th of February, the Year 12 Class of 2018 undertook a study skills camp at St Hilda’s College in the city. The aims of the camp were to develop positive working relationships between staff and students, for students to improve their study skills and to gain an experience into tertiary life.

After a bus ride into St Hilda’s College, students heard from a panel of past HPSC students Swetha Chalam (class of 2017), Samantha Lancaster (2004), Naomi Fei (2016) and Ali Sherzad (2016). Our former students had a range of experiences and stories to share and some valuable tips on how to navigate their final year of schooling.

After sessions focussed on supporting students to understand the demands of VCE and VCAL, students made their way by public transport to either William Angliss, RMIT or Victoria University. There they completed tours of the campuses and discovered what courses the tertiary institutions offered.

On Monday night, students opted into a variety of activities including rock climbing, circus skills, a movie and a tour of the Eureka Sky Deck and Melbourne Star Observation.

Day two started with breakfast and a walk around the picturesque Princess park and Icon Are. Students then completed a number of workshops to develop their writing, ability to cope with stress, improving memory and some ‘Mini Olympics’ team building challenges.

It was a jam packed 2 days and will help enable the Year 12 Cohort to be successful in what will be the greatest year of their life.
