Parent Growth Mindset Seminar
Tuesday February 6th
At Hampton Park Secondary College, we are committed to creating an environment where students, parents and caregivers, teachers and community feel connected and engaged with the high performing teaching and learning afforded our students.
To support this further, we invited all parents and caregivers to attend a free seminar focussed on building a Growth Mindset, held by the highly experienced success coach, Darren Pereira from Success Integrated. Darren’s seminar was presented to the more than fifty parents and caregivers who attended, and provided keys to supporting strong learning at home. Building strong student - parent - teacher partnerships through engaging achievement and well-being programs put everyone on the same page, and help us use a common language to build resilient, high performing students.
Additionally, we provided interpreters for language support in both Dari and Mandarin, so that many more families were be able to understand the information being given. Resources were also provided in multiple languages for parents and caregivers to take home.
The evening was a big success, and we are looking forward to hosting a second parent and caregiver community seminar in term 2. Stay tuned for further information.

Teaching and Learning Teams
Building Our Community of Learners
The staff at HPSC have recently undertaken an initiative to implement Teaching and Learning Teams (TLTs) across the school. Continuously looking for opportunities to improve our practice, TLTs are year level, subject teams that meet on a regular basis to discuss students, their learning and to plan interventions to meet the learning needs of all students.
The TLT initiative is implemented in alignment with a number of other school-wide initiatives, and directly aims to meet one our Key Improvement Strategies in our Strategic Plan. This is to consolidate the College's instructional model so that it reflects the needs of students, focusing on differentiation, extension and intervention tasks, moderation and the use of data to enhance student learning, and to ensure consistency of implementation across the college.
Stage One of the first Cycle was held in Week 3 and lead by our Year Level Managers who worked hard to collate, analyse and share student learning, engagement and wellbeing data with staff. The aim of this was to provide a holistic picture of each year level for staff to get to know their students as learners. Teachers then worked collaboratively in their TLTs to discuss student learning and start to consider targeted teaching opportunities that will support all students to show growth and experience learning success.
Stage Two started in Week 4 and was all about using the student learning data from Stage 1 alongside subject-specific pre-assessment data to determine the learning needs of the cohort. This involved working in teams to ensure that our instructional rubrics, Common Assessment Tasks (CATs) and Learning Sequences not only aligned with the standards set by the Department, but best meet the needs of individual leaners and will enable them to show growth in their learning.
Stage 3 and 4 will occur throughout Term 1 and finish in the first 2 weeks of Term 2. From there, teams will repeat the TLT process in Terms 2, 3 and 4 as we look forward to continuously improve our teaching and learning program and the outcomes for our students.
