FareShare

On Monday the 12th of February, the Food Studies students travelled to the FareShare kitchen in Abbottsford to chop, prepare and cook meals for Melbournians doing it tough.

As part of the FareShare Schools in the Kitchen program, these students cooked over 1300 meals during their session in the kitchen, whilst they learnt valuable lessons about the reality of hunger in the community, as well as issues around food waste and rescue.

The time spent at FareShare was incredibly beneficial for the students and they found it to be a very rewarding day. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the feeling of helping the community, however they were very tired after all the hard work.

FareShare is an organization that produces meals for those who are in need using only donated food that would otherwise be turned into land fill. Every year each of us will waste over 200kg of food and FareShare is able to turn that would be waste into over 5000 meals a day.
