Rite Journey – Winter Camp

In week six of term 3, Year 9 students enjoyed our Winter Camps, the Sleep-Out for the boys and the Sleep-Over for the girls. This is our second of three camps in year 9, with a rationale of developing fellowship, exploring concepts and adversity, and considering how this might relate differently to boys and girls.

Our boys were challenged physically, with the Carnacoo Challenge, sleeping under tarps, cooking dinner on campfires, a physical workout session, and ‘The Plunge’ - submersion in the frigid waters of the river. This was an opportunity for the boys to support one another, to get through these challenges together and to recognise that this often makes hard things a lot easier to cope with. There were, of course, times for the boys to relax, playing spike-ball and boardgames, and some even spent the night curled up in blankets by the woodfire. It is also mentioning how engaged and supportive the boys were in cleaning and packing up the camp. This was a real blessing to staff.

Our girls took a trip into town, and were challenged, both physically and emotionally, with a trip to PCYC for rock climbing, archery tag and gymnastics, an aqua-fit session at the Aquatic Centre, op-shopping and a talk from past students about their personal journey towards womanhood. The girls roughed it in the hall of Family Church, where some were more prepared than others for hard floor! It was a great opportunity for the girls to share adversity, to embrace challenge, to connect over shared experiences and to learn from each other.

I was to acknowledge the time, extra commitment and dedication shown by our staff in coordinating and investing in our year 9’s like this. It testifies to the heart that they have for our students, not just in supporting them academically, but in contributing more holistically to them in spirit and character. Thanks to all of the adult support from outside the TRJ staff, Ella Connors, Liz Winter, Cam Spaulding, Scott Black, Brent Jose and Ryan Bosker who all contributed to a successful camp. Thank you also, to parents for supporting us and working with us to ensure a high level of participation and buy-in from our young people. Please enjoy these photos.

Conversation with Mayor Van Zetten

On Friday, 9/9/22, the Year 6 classes were visited by Mayor Van Zetten.  This was a part of our studies on economics and business.  It was a great privilege to talk with Mayor Van Zetten who has had a challenging role serving the community and applying his knowledge and wisdom as an accountant and as a man of God. We were able to ask lots of questions about his 15 years in office.  Some of our questions included “How do you prioritise which projects and initiatives to fund?”  and “How have your values impacted your choices as mayor?”.  One of our classmates were able to try on the mayoral chain!

We learned about the youth advisory for the council and a few of us are wondering if that could be in our future in highschool.  We are very thankful for Mayor Van Zetten’s time and willingness to speak with us.  We were able to pray for him and for whoever will take his place as he retires.

NSATIS - Salubrious Performances 2022

Salubrious Individual performances @ NSATIS Athletics 2022

Well done to all our athletes who represented LCS at this years NSATIS carnival in Penguin. It was a great team effort and we did well to come 5th overall in the aggregate shields (out of 6 schools). Given the size of our school (we are the smallest) we did very well.

Here is a link to the full results for anyone who is interested:

https://thehub.lcs.tas.edu.au/homepage/8632/

A big thank you to Mrs Sheree Stokes, Mr. Steve Klimeck, Mr. David Kamphuis, Mr. Stephen Matthew, Mrs. Michelle Fitzallen and Mr. Adrian Bosker who all assisted on the day.

Below is a list of our athletes who placed in their events. In track events where there was more than one heat, times were combined to give overall results based on times. So, placing in your race might not necessarily mean placing overall if your heat was slower than the other ones!

Netball Premiers!

A massive congrats to our Snr. 2nds Netball team who were victorious in their netball Grand Final on Saturday.

There was a great LCS crowd @ the Silverdome to cheer them on and they witnessed an excellent Grand final with LCS defeating SPC 36-29.

It was a great team effort but a special shout out to Allyse Depuit who was awarded Grand Final MVP by the officiating umpires - well done Allyse.

A big thanks to Ellie Bissett and Karis Bensemann who co-coached the team and Mandy King who was the team manager.

Notices of Intended Withdrawal of Enrolment

At this time of the year we are processing a significant number of enrolment enquires. Term 4 is also the time when we begin the process of organising classes for 2023.

To assist us in this process, we ask that families intending to withdraw a student at the end of 2022 provide the required one term (10 school weeks’) notice in writing to Mr Adrian Bosker ASAP (if they have not already done so), stating when the student will be withdrawn and where they are to be educated.

Please be aware that end of year withdrawal notices received after the start of Term 4 will be considered insufficient notice, and a penalty of 5 weeks’ tuition fees may apply, which may be deducted from the family’s Fee Deposit paid on enrolment.

Note for the office

ABSENCES/ATTENDANCE

Communication regarding a student’s absence needs to come via the school office. This information will then be passed on to the student’s teachers. Parents are asked where possible to telephone the school or email the office in advance when a student will be absent.  If you subscribe to the mobile app, The Hub you can also lodge an electronic absentee form which will reach the office immediately.  The school telephone number is (03) 6327 2854 and email is office@lcs.tas.edu.au

Students who are late must sign in at the school office.  Students will be issued a ‘late pass’ that must be presented to their teacher.  Students who sign in ‘late’ must have a note of explanation from home.   Three unexplained late arrivals will result in a detention.

Yr11/12 students that have a study period in the morning and do not attend Class Teacher must sign in at the office as soon as they arrive at school, if students have not signed in whole day absences will be on their record. Yr 11/12 students may leave the school grounds during study periods, however they are required to sign out and back in at the office.  This is important, particularly in the case of an emergency, so students can be accounted for by the staff and emergency services.

Written permission is required to leave the school grounds during school hours (except Year 11 & 12).  Students are to meet parents at the office. All students must use the sign out folder at the student counter in the main office.  When students return to school, they should report to the student counter in the main office and sign in.

If families intend to be absent from school due to extended holidays (3 days or more), parents need to fill out in advance an Application for Extended Leave for Travel form, found under the Parents and Students/Downloads & Policies tab on our website:  www.lcs.tas.edu.au(Please see Extended Leave Policy on next pages)

MEDICATION

Should your child need to take prescribed medication at school please inform the school office.  All medication, both prescription and over the counter medication, needs to be in original packaging and labelled with clear dosage instructions (prescription medication needs dosage instructions from a registered medical practitioner) and must be administered at the school office and students are not permitted to carry medication at school. Medical forms are sent home at the beginning of each school year and parents are able to indicate whether they give permission for paracetamol to be administered if required.

UNIFORM

Students who are not incorrect uniform, wrong jacket or coloured socks etc must get a uniform pass from the office.  A note of explanation should be provided by parents.  Three uniform non compliances, without parent explanation, will result in a detention.
