DCC'S 5/6 URBAN CAMP
Dcc's Year 5's and 6's went on an exhilarating camp experience two weeks ago. We had the absolute best time. We took public transport (which many kids enjoyed), explored/visited a variety of wonderful places, went on a shopping spree in Queen Victoria Market and enjoyed a educating experience at MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground). We found the staff at Urban Camp to be really welcoming and the food there to be actually not that bad.
On the first day we left from school at 8:40am and left for our first stop, Urban Camp . We dropped off our luggage and proceeded to The Botanical Garden. As soon as we got there students were dumbfound when they saw the ultimate beauty of The Botanical Garden. We ate our lunch and made our way to ‘ The War Memorial’. We took lots of photos and then went to The Australian Centre Of The Moving Image ACMI . Over there we received discs that we could tap and information would upload onto the disc. Then we visited a place down in the graffiti walls of Melbourne city, The Big Issue. During our time there we learned about homelessness and poverty and how The Big Issue were doing everything they could to stop it. Then we came back to the camp site and had our first dinner and went to bed but nobody could sleep from the excitement.
On the second day morning we woke to the boys upstairs jumping up and down and throwing loud tantrums. We got dressed and went into the dining room to have breakfast. We then we took a train from Flemington Station to QVM( Queen Victoria market) and bought candy and lots of other random things. We ate our lunch at the park with UCS(urban camp staff) and then went to The Old Treasury Building. At The Old Treasury Building we learnt about Australia history and Parliament and Government stuff. We also talked about the Queen and Commonwealth. We then came out and sat on a big grassy hill to relax. Then some of us had the fun crazy idea of rolling down the hill ad we all took turns racing one another . We then came back to camp, showered, ate dinner and went on a night walk around royal park (we mainly just walked in circles) and then came back to our dorms to fall asleep.
On the last day’s morning, we got up, took a shower and went down to breakfast where the urban camp staff explained to us what our day would look like. We then walked down to the train station and caught a train to the MCG+ ASM. There we were divided into our groups and each were assigned a tour guide and they escorted us around the MCG. We then went to ASM and received these green and yellow wristbands and were able to tap them to the information screens and uploaded information. We had a tremendous amount of fun. We then went back to Urban Camp to collect our luggage and eat lunch. Then we got on the bus and drove back school.
Overall the camp experience was really fun . We enjoyed it a lot and would like to thank our teachers , especially Nick James for organising this fun-filled 3 day school camp. We are grateful for doing this for us and would give this a 3.9 star review. Although we walked almost 30km altogether we still thoroughly enjoyed our time.
