Musica Viva

Eastwinds are a trio ensemble based in Fremantle, Western Australia who are visiting our school to perform for us as part of the Musica Viva in Schools program.

The trio share a love of improvisation and bring their Australian, Japanese and Iranian cultures together through music.

Esfandiar Shahmir on the mystical end-blown Persian ney (flute) and daf (frame drum), Sanshi (Yoshitaka Saegusa) on didgeridoo and Mark Cain on woodwinds and reeds.

Eastwinds weaves a difficult to define spacious tapestry of sound that finds a bridge between east and west, folk and jazz, composition and improvisation.

The students have been familiarising themselves with their unique sound and unusual instruments in music lessons and will be learning more about improvisation and story telling through music in the coming weeks.

We are really looking forward to hearing and seeing them live next Wednesday.

Grades 1/2 and 2/3

Emily has been exploring pitch with students in 1/2 and 2/3, in particular, differentiating between the highs and lows.  Class 1/2 and 2/3 have used the xylophones to explore this, while 3/4 and 4/5 have used ukuleles.

Choir

Choir rehearsals are held each Wednesday, during lunchtime. It's great to see so many students from all year levels getting involved.
