K.I.O.S.C. Year 7

Knox Innovation Opportunity & Sustainability Centre

Year 7 Maths

KIOSC was a very interesting and exciting experience. I had a-lot of fun cooperating with people to figure out codes for robots or trying to diffuse a bomb in VR. I was very interested in the things we were learning, and I was amazed on how things worked. I would love to have this experience again because I learnt so many things while also having fun with my peers!

Riana Muir (7C)

KIOSC, was an amazing experience with the teamwork, and pressure in the activities were just what made it even better. Working with my friends, and trying new things is just so much fun. One of the activities were about programming a robot to move around a maze, it was all about trial and error. Although it was annoying at first, I just wanted to keep going and fix the issues. Overall, it was a great day/experience!

Lauren O'Brien (7C)

I thought that KIOSC was extremely fun and encourage more people to go you do so many fun actives and you learn so much and not in a boring way, in a fun way. If I had the choice I would go again!

Zach Derma (7H)

The year 7 students learned about emergency technology at KIOSC. At maths KIOSC we had three full sessions to learn about how to use technologies and to code. The first activity was programming the robot sphere, we used the tablet to code the robot spheres and make the spheres complete the maze. We coded the robot spheres, by using degrees to turn and then calculating the speed. The second activity was using the VR, we worked with a partner to complete the VR game. One person had to be in the VR game and explain what they are seeing, and the other person had to listen. The listener had to find the correct information by the other persons description. To complete the game, they had to finish all the task before the timer runs out. The VR game is all about communications and teamwork. The final session required students to create an earthquake. We connected the earthquake sensors to our laptop. Then we banged the table to create earthquake and the earthquake sensor could sense the earthquake.

KIOSC was a great experience to enjoy with my classmates while both learning and having fun. We learnt about emergencies and got to work with things such as microchips and robots.
