PRINCIPAL

DEAN PFITZNER

Dean.Pfitzner@education.wa.edu.au

Welcome back to Term 3. It is great to see the staff and students back. I will be in the Principal’s chair for the first two weeks as Steve Watt takes some LSL.

As you would be aware both Mrs Pfitzner and I were on LSL last term. We were fortunate enough to spend some six weeks travelling in the northern parts of our great state. It was a fantastic time away with the highlight being the time we spent exploring the awe inspiring and amazing landscapes and rich history of Karijini National Park.

Positive College Image

It so happened that our travels whilst on LSL crossed paths with the two groups of students who undertook Sea Trek last term at Denham. Even though we were on leave we were very proud of the students and the manner in which they conducted themselves.  It is a testament to the model of education at Harvey Ag and the three way partnership between the student, parents and the College, to develop and educate each individual student.

You know as a school you are on the right track when you are simply walking around the caravan park at Denham (as a member of the general public with no obvious link to the College) and over hear numerous positive comments about the manners, presentation and demeanour of the group of our students. This is the reputation that is associated with our logo, brand and students! Congratulations to all on such a positive and strong culture.

We Welcome New Staff

Welcome to two new staff who have commenced this term. Heidi Armstrong has joined the Residential Supervisory staff and Jenny Staker has been appointed as an Agricultural Teacher in the Class area.

Ever Changing Environment

With our eastern states counter parts in a variety of lockdowns at the moment, this is a timely reminder of how lucky we are over here in the west. However, we cannot become too complacent as circumstances can change very quickly.

With this in mind staff are reacquainting themselves with the Learning From Home Model that the College prepared at the beginning of the year – simply in the event of need. Staff and students will go through an organised schedule to familiarise themselves with the use of WEBEX (the Department authorised on line platform), again in the event of need.

Term 3

This term is the business end of the year for the Year 12 students, with the need for a strong focus and sustained effort for the next ten weeks and the first two weeks of Term 4.

The last official day for Year 12 students is Friday 22nd October. There are then two weeks following this in which Year 12 students will be able to make application to return to the College for specific purposes.

Year 12 General students may be eligible to depart Friday 24th September, only if they have completed all their course work, VET qualifications and have completed the clearance process.

Year 12 ATAR students continue into Term 4 with the focus on preparing for the external exams. All students should know their progress following the Semester 1 reporting process. If students or parents have any queries in relation to their progress in each subject, please do not hesitate to contact the respective teachers or instructors.

As well as being the business end of the year, Term 3 is also a busy time with the following major upcoming events scheduled,  please refer to the College calendar for dates:

  • School Photos
  • Parent Teacher Interviews
  • College Ball
  • OLNA
  • Year 11 Dowerin Field trip
  • Farm Skills

Once again welcome back and I wish everyone a successful term.
