Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

This Sunday is August 15th, the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On this day, Catholics and many other Christians celebrate one of the most significant dates on the Church calendar.

This significant feast day recalls the spiritual and physical departure of the Mother of Jesus Christ from the earth, when both her soul and her body were taken into the presence of God, into Heaven.

The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is observed in the Catholic Church in Australia as a Holy Day of Obligation, a day when Catholics are expected to attend Mass.

The only other Holy Days of Obligation in the Australian Catholic Church are the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ (Christmas day), Easter Sunday and all the Sundays of the year.

 We pray for the following:

• State and Commonwealth Leaders who are guiding us through the pandemic

• Principals, school leaders and educators who are doing their utmost for our children at this very challenging time

• Health workers

• Our families and loved ones, that they are safe and well

• Our teachers and Sandhurst CEO colleagues as they go about their roles in our schools, parishes and Offices

• Our Principal, Paula and School Leadership as they lead our wonderful School

• Our Bishop, Priests and Religious Leaders

Welcome to Country

This is my land. My land is alive.

It calls you and it calls me.

Our people have been living here since the first sunrise.

I sing a song to her and she sings a song to me.

My spirit born of this country,

I am Yorta Yorta.

We pay our respects to the elders past and present and welcome you to our woka.

Welcome!
