Co-curricular - Junior Sport

When we think of Co-curricular activities in the Junior School, most people would turn their attention to sport. However, there are an increasing number of boys that are seizing the opportunity to be involved in the Cultural (non-sporting) Co-curricular activities in the Junior School. Around half the boys in Junior School are involved in choirs, ensembles, the various bands, Debating and the newly formed Junior School Justice Program.

These Cultural Co-curricular activities demand every bit of focus and effort that can be found on any field or court. The boys involved in these activities arrive at school early, around 7:30 a.m. or stay back late to train and practice. Often sessions go unnoticed with some training, at times, conducted indoors in the music rooms, classrooms, or library.

The Junior School boys experience much success in these areas. Many boys go on to join the Senior ensembles and bands. The St Patrick’s Choir compete in various eisteddfods, and in recent years have placed highly in the Ryde Eisteddfod, and this year’s Debating team have experienced a 50%-win ratio. The boys should be congratulated on their commitment, effort, and their impressive results. Keep up the great work gentlemen and know that your efforts do not go unnoticed.

This Thursday 17 June, the Junior School will be involved in the annual House Athletics Carnival. This will be held on Breen Oval. Boys are to wear their college tracksuit to and from school with their black cap, colour house t-shirt and black shorts underneath. Boys will need to bring their recess and lunch in their sports bag, along with their water bottle and sunscreen. Parents/carers are welcome to spectate on the day and are asked to sit along the Fraser Street benches at an appropriate distance from each other. There is to be no mingling of boys and parents/carers during the carnival. All individual races (100m, 200m and 800m) will be held between 9:15 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Relays will be held after lunch. We look forward to an exciting day, full of close finishes and great support and team spirit.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy mid-year break. May it be a time of relaxation, rejuvenation, and preparation for next semester. To all those competing in CIS carnivals and competitions, good luck and I wish you all the best for your time on the field.
