EXCEL Sports Program
Excel Sport 2018
2018 has been another successful year for the EXCEL Sport Program. We have won a State Title in Futsal and Lacrosse, made State Finals in Beach Volleyball, Rugby 7s, Touch Football and Cricket. Apart from the normal sporting teams, the EXCEL Sport students have also participated in 3X3 Basketball, Lawn Bowls, Ultimate Frisbee, Muay Thai Boxing and European Handball just to name a few. For the first time, the Year 9 students went to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra for a five-day camp and experienced life as an elite athlete. This was a fantastic experience for the students and will now feature annually in Year 9 program. All students have been challenged in many different sporting environments and represented the College with distinction in the Community. It is an exciting time for EXCEL Sport as we embark on a Year 10 program in 2019.

Junior Division Mullum District Ultimate Frisbee Gala Day
On Wednesday 21st November the Year 9 EXCEL Sport class competed in the Mullum District Gala Day at Ultimate Frisbee. The class had been practicing for several weeks and were excited to showcase their skills. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams finished a very successful day undefeated, winning both grand finals convincingly. Well done on finishing a very successful year on a high.

Woolworths Cricket Blast School Cup – EAST State Final
On Wednesday 14th November the Year 8 Girls Cricket team qualified for the Woolworths Cricket Blast School Cup - EAST Division State Finals. The team qualified by virtue of their success in the SSV Cricket tournaments. The Woolworths Cricket Blast School Cup was run by Cricket Victoria and involved schools from the public and private sector. On the day, after successfully winning through the preliminary rounds, the Patterson River Secondary School team qualified for the grand final against Waverley Christian College. Chasing 111 after the first innings, the girls managed to tie the game. This created an unprecedented ‘bowl off’ which had rarely been seen by even the true cricket purists! The bowl off was an extremely stressful and nerve racking affair and unfortunately after 10 alternating bowling efforts we were pipped at the post by a whisker! A fantastic effort by the girls which will put them in good stead for the SSV Year 8 Cricket State Title on Tuesday 27th November.
SSV Year 8 Girls T20 Blast School Cup State Final
On Tuesday 27th November the Year 8 Girls Cricket team competed against the best Victorian Year 8 cricketers for the State Title. It was a bitter sweet day for the girls after an extremely successful year in cricket throughout 2018. For most of the girls, cricket was a new sport which placed them on a steep learning curve that constantly challenged them under pressure. Our State Representative, Rhys McKenna has lead the team admirably over the season. Unfortunately, Rhys was unavailable on the State Final due to an exciting invitation to join the Melbourne Renegades WBBL team for a practice match against The Melbourne Stars. A fantastic opportunity for Rhys, but a whole much too large for the team to cover. Having said that, PRSC only lost by 10 runs to the eventual grand finalists without Rhys and Sami Scheffer. Well done girls and to Ms. Daly for helping out in my absence at the Regional Finals.
