MUSIC DEPARTMENT - PERFORMANCES

In the final weeks of 2015 the Music Department has been out and about performing at many end-of-year celebrations.

The Year 9 Music Performance class, under the direction of Ms Theresa Kirk, performed an outstanding debut concert at Claremont Terrace on 27 November. Well done to all the students involved as the residents thoroughly enjoyed the music that was presented.

Congratulations to Chloe James, William Hardy and James Hardy who performed for the Community Senior Citizens Christmas morning tea on Thursday 3 December. The crowd joined in with the many Christmas songs and were enthusiastic in their praise of the trio.

The Junior Concert on Thursday 3 December was outstanding with a high level of musicianship displayed by all the junior and intermediate students. It was fantastic to see so many parents and friends there supporting the developing musicians.

The Junior School Assembly on Friday 4 December provided a number of students the chance to successfully perform in front of their peers. Congratulations to Chloe James, William Hardy and James Hardy who sang the National Anthem, to the Junior Stage Band (under the guidance of Mr Dmitry Serebrianik) for their outstanding performance and to Elizabeth Lanaras for her solo piano performance. Well done!

Orientation night and day for the 2016 Year 7 students provided the Ovenden band with a great opportunity to perform for prospective students. Congratulations on representing the school and the Music Department so professionally. Thank you to Ms Tracy Videon for her ongoing guidance of this ensemble.

On Tuesday 8 December the Intermediate Stage Band and the Senior Stage Band were the hot performers at Dizzy’s Jazz Club in Richmond. Well done to all students on this outstanding performance. Thank you to all parents and friends who attended and supported the students on this performance opportunity. Thanks to Mr Dmitry Serebrianik and Mr Martin West for their ongoing development of these great ensembles.

PERSONAL INSTRUMENTS

All students who have used their own instruments need to remove these from the store room by Friday 11 December.

HOLIDAY HIRE

Students who are wishing to hire musical instruments over the January break need to complete a hire form, available from the Music Centre from Tuesday 1 December. Instruments will be available the morning Monday 14 December.

CONGRATULATIONS

Brolga Music has released the beginner band piece The Magic Key, written by Mr Martin West, internationally.  Congratulations Martin! 

Finally, we wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. Practise well and we look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.
