New K-2 Syllabus

Dear Parents and Carers,

Since 2020 the NSW Curriculum Reform has been shaping a new K-2 Syllabus. This year, our K-2 teachers have been implementing the new English and Mathematics Syllabus. The new curriculum gives students more time to focus on key concepts so they can acquire a deeper understanding of essential knowledge and skills. It ensures students develop strong foundations for learning as they prepare for life and work in a complex and fast-changing world.

The new syllabus emphasise key concepts, identifies essential knowledge and skills and includes new outcomes to clearly show that it is essential. To reflect the outcomes of the new English and Mathematics syllabuses, the language of the Semester 1 reports will change. MaST News

It has been wonderful to see our students actively engaged in their mathematics units of work. In particular, Stage 1 and Kindergarten who have been learning all about Separating and Combining Quantities (subtraction and addition).

Last week, we were very fortunate to have Helen Roswell, our school's Subject Matter Expert in Mathematics, complete learning walks across our school. She was able to witness firsthand the amazing learning and teaching happening in our classrooms. It was a great opportunity for us to have her expertise and guidance in further improving our students' numeracy skills.

During Helen’s visit, she made bead kebabs with the Kindergarten class to assist them in understanding their number bonds (create, recall and recognise combinations of two numbers that add up to numbers less than 10). Stage One has also been using the bead kebabs in their lessons to represent addition and subtraction using structured materials such as the bead kebabs.

Well done to our Infants students and keep up the great work!

Kind Regards,

Elise Avery
