Library

The Library has had a very busy few weeks with the Library Week's happenings. Our theme this year was taken in part from the National Simultaneous Storytime book about a sloth and the region where they originate from in the jungles of South and Central America. We then explored other animals that come from the region and stories that relate to these animals.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair was a huge success this year with the Library making a couple of hundred dollars for new books to add to our collection. Students joined us in the Library for a preview on Tuesday 23rd and were able to shop at the fair through to Monday the following week. Thank you to all of the parents that joined us for this showcase and their support for our best fair ever.

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS)

National Simultaneous Storytime was held on Wednesday the 24 May, 2023. This year's book was 'The Speedy Sloth' by Rebecca Young. We were joined in the theatre by all of the primary school students and the IELC students for a reading of the book. There were over 2 million young people around the world reading this book for NSS.

Craft Activities

The students craft activities have made the Library Week displays come alive. From our Prep students making Pythons, Mr Cameron's class had leaping green frogs, Ms Collins class were cheeky monkeys, Ms Nguyen's class made speedy sloths, Ms Butterworth's class took flight with magnificent macaws and the IELC class made Toucans. With stories and non-fiction books a fun way to bring Literacy to life.

Mexican Staff Fiesta

To finish our Library Week celebrations and to celebrate the end of the VCE units 1 & 3 courses we had a delightful afternoon spending time together, enjoying fabulous Mexican food and playing games. Lots of fun was had by all.

VPRC - Ready, Set, Read!

The Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge is a great way to get students reading and learning. We have challenged the classes to complete the Ready, Set, Read! race track since the beginning of our VPRC this year. There are some very competitive students and our speed dating books have completed the track and a victory lap of books too. Many of the students have already completed the Challenge however they have until September 6th to finalise adding books onto their accounts.

Book Review - Sailor Moon Graphic Novels

This week, new to our shelves, is the Manga series by Tomohito Oda called Komi Can’t Communicate. Because these books are written in the Japanese Manga style, they read front to back and right to left.  This series is suited to readers aged 12 and above.

“Socially anxious high school student Shoko Komi’s greatest dream is to make some friends, but everyone at school mistakes her crippling social anxiety for cool reserve. With the whole student body keeping its distance and Komi unable to utter a single word, friendship might be forever beyond her reach.

In the first Volume, timid Tadano is a total wallflower and that’s just the way he likes it. But all that changes when he finds himself alone in a classroom on the first day of school with the legendary Komi. He quickly realizes she isn’t aloof – she’s just super awkward. Now he’s made it his mission to help her on her quest to make 100 friends!

The journey to a hundred friends begins with a single conversation.”

We encourage students to suggest books that they are interested in and that they think their peers might like. Then, if we think it is suitable for our collection, we will order it in. Keep an eye out for new books hitting our library shelves.
