Deputy Principal's Report

Attendance - Every Day Counts
Occasionally we hear that students are reluctant to come to school, and is often related to anxiety. Data shows that this has become an increasingly common issue Australia-wide since Covid19. If your child is showing reluctance to come to school for reasons other than illness, please speak to your child's teacher about the possible causes for this. Work with your child to understand what is happening so that they feel supported and empowered. Listen with compassion but be consistent in your expectations that they need to attend school every day, unless they are legitimately sick. Please see the following handout for more information about the importance of school attendance. There is some interesting data about the cumulative effects of school absence.
Resilience Project Parent Hub
This week’s parent presentation from The Resilience Project focuses on Gratitude. Gratitude is paying attention to the things that we have right now, and not worrying about what we don’t have. We practise this by noticing the positives that exist around us. Research shows that practising gratitude rewires our brains to overcome the negativity bias (which can lead to anxiety and depression) and see the world for what we are thankful for. It is also shown to broaden thinking, and increase physical health through improved sleep and attitude to exercise.

There are many ways in which you can practise gratitude, including starting a gratitude journal. You can simply use a notebook to list three things that went well for you each day, or use a more comprehensive Wellbeing Journal, like those created by The Resilience Project.

Child Safe Posters
Our Year 6 Wellbeing Leaders have been hard at work designing a set of posters that link to the Child Safe Standards. Once completed, these will be presented to the students and displayed around the school. Please see their designs so far below. Thank you to Trinity, Kiahna and Zara for delivering these important messages to our students.
Thank you
