Community Engagement

Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much” – Helen Keller

Welcome to Term 3. We are heading into a very busy term, with many opportunities for parents and carers to be a part of our school community.

Please mark the following dates on your calendar and keep an eye out in our newsletter, class news, Facebook, and Audiri for further information. The Parents and Friends Association will be asking parents and carers to volunteer their time to assist with a number of these events. These events wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our families who make them a memorable experience for our students.

Children’s Book Week 2023

This year, Book Week will be held from the 19th - 25th August. The CBCA (Children’s Book Council of Australia) Book of the Year awards connect young people to great literature. During Children’s Book Week, we celebrate reading for pleasure and applaud the awarded books. This year, the theme is Read Grow Inspire. The artwork seen in the image below celebrates the transformative power of reading. The seahorse represents growth, strength, and beauty in many cultures. The power of a book, once read, grows knowledge, imagination, and inspiration.

Our book parade will take place at 9 am Thursday 24th August (please note the change of date). Students can come to school dressed up as their favourite book character or may wish to choose a character that inspires them, in line with this year’s Book Week theme.

During Book Week, we are very lucky to have local author Andre Rowe visit the children. Many of us are familiar with her 2022 CBCA Picture Book of the Year and national bestseller, Jetty Jumping. Andrea will also share with us her recently published book, Sunday Skating and talk about her experiences and inspiration as an author.

Mrs Heggen, Mrs Nagel and our classroom teachers will also immerse the children in CBCA-shortlisted books and provide many learning opportunities for them to explore and respond to this great literature. The PFA will be running our annual Book Fair, which is a great opportunity to encourage our children to read more and develop their love of reading.

We look forward to what will be a very exciting week.
