F-4 Community News

Welcome back to Term 3. We are looking forward to a term of learning with many extracurricular activities planned to take place throughout the term. In particular, over the next two weeks, we have some exciting events taking place.

One of our largest events for the year is taking place next week on Thursday 27th July. All F-6 students will be taking part in an exciting incursion by ‘Random Act of Magic With Tam’. Erin had the privilege of meeting Tam at a performing arts summer camp in America and thought that it would be a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience other forms of performing arts that are not common in our regional area. Throughout the day, students will watch a magic performance and participate in workshops to learn juggling and various forms of magic including, foam ball, rubber band, coin and rope tricks. Following our incursion, the F-6 students will practise these tricks for several days in preparation for our Parents and Caregivers Magic Showcase on Monday 7th August. We are so excited to see all the students performing their new skills for the College community. For a quick snapshot of what Tam can do, check out her videos on her Youtube Channel ‘RAM with TAM’.

On Thursday 3rd August, the F-6 students will have their Athletic Sports Carnival. More information will be provided closer to the date by the Sport Coordinators. This is a day when students are encouraged to come dressed in their house colours and join in the fun by participating in modified activities for F-2 and traditional athletic events for 3-6. We can’t wait to see everyone's excellent sportsmanship on the day.

In addition to the extracurricular activities taking place at school, the F-4 students have some exciting topics that they will explore across different learning areas. These vary from Foundation students exploring their family history, the Year 1s focusing on animals and habitats, Year 2s learning about early world civilisations including Mesopotamia and Egypt and Years 3 and 4 students exploring their new novel texts The BFG and Revolting Rhymes, both by Roald Dahl. We look forward to the students growing their knowledge and sharing their learning through discussions and at the end of term assembly.

Foundation

On Friday 23rd June, Miss Emmett and the Foundation students hosted a picnic for Goldilocks and The Three Bears. The students had been learning about fractions and sharing during Maths Specialist this term which helped them to prepare and share some delicious food for their special visitors.

Foundation students have had an amazing start to Term 3! They have settled back into our classroom routines and have enjoyed catching up with all of their friends. In the classroom, the Foundation students have been working hard during Literacy sessions stretching, making and writing words, playing word based games and practising their reading fluency. It has been wonderful to see the commitment to home reading, keep up the great effort everyone!

Years 1 and 2

Years 1 and 2 students have settled back smoothly into Term 3.

We are excited to be working on some procedure writing and began this by making fairy bread.

We learnt about the structure of a procedure text - it needs to include a title (what we are doing), the materials or equipment we need and the steps we take to complete the task.

We thought about some different types of procedures such as recipes, how to tie shoelaces, how to fold a paper plane, how to put up a tent and how to make toast.

We learnt about the importance of being very specific when listing the steps and being very clear with our instructions.

It was great fun telling our partners the steps needed to make our fairy bread!
