GCAG News

On Tuesday the 20th of June, Girton is facilitating a fundraiser for ‘Dolly’s Dream’ and ‘Do It For Dolly Day’.

The ‘Do It For Dolly’ initiative was set up by Tick and Kate Everett after the loss of their 14-year-old daughter, Dolly, following prolonged cyberbullying from classmates. This initiative is about celebrating kindness and taking a stand against bullying.

Girton Community Action Group (GCAG) is raising funds for Dolly’s Dream by hosting a number of events on Tuesday next week. Dolly’s favourite colour was blue so we will be starting with a “Wear it Blue for Dolly” Day where all Senior School students are encouraged to donate a gold coin to wear their Girton P.E. uniform for the day.

Representatives from GCAG will be collecting donations in the morning House Tutor Group on Tuesday. All funds raised will be donated to “Dolly’s Dream” and will be used to support Anti-Bullying education and counselling programs in rural and remote communities.

Parents and friends of the Girton Community are also welcome to make a donation to the fundraiser using the following link:

Other events that will be promoting our “Do It for Dolly Day” are:

  • Year 12 versus Staff Basketball game in the Gym on Tuesday lunchtime
  • Our “Do It For Dolly” Kindness Tree in the Morey Building foyer. All week students and staff will have the opportunity to add a leaf with a message of kindness or support. This is a visual reminder to us all that treating each other with respect, care and kindness goes a long way to preventing bullying in our community.

In Dolly’s own words - ”Speak even if your voice shakes”. Words can harm but they can also heal. Please add your voice to our kindness tree so that we can spread the message and make a difference.
