Term 3 has certainly been action-packed to date. This year's performance of Shrek the Musical showcased the incredible talents of our students and staff. While watching the show on opening night, I felt incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication required to deliver such a wonderful community event. Staff and students have put in countless hours across many terms, and I want to congratulate everyone involved, both on stage and backstage. It truly was an incredible show. Events like this go beyond providing a great night out.

Multiple research studies have shown that participation in performing arts can improve students' academic, social, and emotional outcomes. Participation enhances academic performance, social and emotional skills, confidence and self-expression, and empowerment.

I was fortunate to attend our Student Leaders "professional learning" day in July. During my talk, I emphasized that leadership is more about actions than ideas or power. It is one thing to identify what isn't working, but it's another to determine what you can do to contribute to change and improvement. I challenged the student leaders to consider our school's diversity in their planning to ensure that all voices are heard. We are lucky to have many students who want to contribute to our school's improvement journey, and I look forward to seeing them return and put into action what they learned during the day.

Currently, we are deep into our 2024 planning at Cranbourne East Secondary College. This involves connecting with our Year 7 students for 2024, subject selection, and course counselling. Additionally, we are working closely with the Department of Education and Training (DET) to identify resourcing needs, specifically classrooms. We anticipate that the college will grow by over 120 students in 2024, placing additional strain on our facilities. To address this, we are exploring options to reduce congestion in our yard and increase access to the canteen. This may result in a split lunchtime in 2024.

On Monday, August 7, we began our School Review, which will continue throughout the coming weeks and until the end of term. In Term 4, we will be able to present our community with a strategic plan outlining our improvement intentions for the next four years.

Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey

We want our parents / caregivers / guardians to tell us what they think!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents / caregivers / guardians think of our school. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. A random sample of approximately 30 per cent of parents / caregivers / guardians has been selected to participate in this year’s survey.
