There is a lot to look forward to this term, none the least than Camp in Week 9! This year we will be returning to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat where the children will participate in the Costume School. This will mean that not only do they have the opportunity to be immersed in the life of a child in the goldfields in the 1850s, but they also form part of the living exhibition that makes Sovereign Hill more than a museum.
As part of our Inquiry Unit this term, students will be looking at Australian history, inlcuding early settlement of the colonies and the move towards self government and the establishment of the Commonwealth. They will also look at the interactions between colonists and the First Nations people they encountered.
We've begun this term focussing on Location and Mapping skills, where we will be looking at details that need to be included on maps, particularly paying attention to how to use the scale to recognise the size and distances represented on a map. We'll also make note of how to correctly orientate a map using compass headings and how to use co-ordinates or grid references to identify places.
This Term, there will be a focus on Grammar and Punctuation to improve our writing. Much of our writing and reading will be supporting our research skills to gather information about our Inquiry.
Our current reading focus is on Visualising to help us understand what we read. When we do so we can:
School Closure Day, Monday July 24th, Week 3
Parent Teacher Interviews, Tuesday and Thursday, Week 5
Science Week in Week 6
Basketball Lightning Premiership, Friday August 25th, Week 7
Book Week, Week 10
Grandparent's Day and Afternoon Tea, September 13th, Week 10
