Week 1, Term 3

Welcome Back to Term 3 - Let's Embrace an Exciting Journey of Learning!

We hope that the break provided you with ample opportunities to unwind, create cherished memories, and recharge your spirits. This term we would like to extend a warm welcome to three new families who have joined our class and school community. As we commence Term 3, let us extend a heartfelt welcome to each new family, ensuring that they feel embraced and supported as they settle into our vibrant school culture.

Term 3 Learning

Get ready for an incredible journey of discovery and growth as we dive into the exciting learning experiences planned for this term. Throughout the coming weeks, our students can anticipate engaging projects, hands-on experiments, thought-provoking discussions, and interactive activities designed to inspire their intellectual curiosity. We will also be embarking on an excursion to Twisted Science!

Maths

Our term 3 topics include:

  • Addition and Subtraction (weeks 1 and 2)
  • Multiplication and Division (weeks 3 and 4)
  • 3D objects - volume (weeks 5 and 6)
  • Time (weeks 7 and 8)
  • Patterns and Algebra (weeks 9 and 10)

Literacy

Writing - We will maintain our focus on enhancing sentence structure and grammar skills, while also delving into the realm of procedural writing. This will be a part of our engaging exploration of scientific experiments for our Inquiry unit on Forces and Functions.

Reading - We will continue our focused efforts in reading groups, where each group will work towards achieving their individualised learning goals.

Inquiry

Our term 3 Inquiry unit is called Forces and Functions: The value of Discovery.

The Rationale of this topic is about the practical and engaging explorations of physics, engineering and coding to motivate students to pursue these skills as they get older.

Students will be conducting investigations into

 - How forces can be exerted by one object.

 - Designing and conducting experiments.

 - Basic computer programming using Scratch.

This week, we initiated an activity where we examined various pictures to generate ideas and brainstorm the essential components required for their functionality.

We look forward to another amazing term!
