3/4 B

Week 1 Term 3

Welcome back to Term 3, I sincerely hope you had a good winter break! This term promises to be full of great learning and lots of fun. Here is a brief overview of some of our intended learning for this term.

Literacy

In 3/4B we are going to have a variety of different areas of focus in Reading. To start the term our main focus will be predicting and inferring

When we predict, we:

• Think about what will happen in the text before we read it.

When we infer, we:

• “Read between the lines” to figure out what the author is actually saying as we read.

In Writing we will also have a variety of different foci. We will be linking our Inquiry and our writing, so during parts of this term we will be looking into procedural writing as we conduct different scientific experiements for our unit Forces and Functions

Maths

Our term 3 topics include:

  • Addition and Subtraction (weeks 1 and 2)
  • Multiplication and Division (weeks 3 and 4)
  • 3D objects - volume (weeks 5 and 6)
  • Time (weeks 7 and 8)
  • Patterns and Algebra (weeks 9 and 10)

Inquiry

Our term 3 inquiry unit is called Forces and Functions: The value of Discovery.

The Rationale behind the unit is:

That practical and engaging explorations of physics, engineering and coding will motivate students to pursue these skills as they get older.

The areas of Influence during this Inquiry from the curriculum include:

  • Digital Technologies
  • Design and Technologies
  • Science - Physical Science
  • Science Inquiry skills
  • Critical and Creative Thinking

We will investigate:

  • How forces can be exerted by one subject
  • Designing and conducting experiments
  • Basic computer programming using Scratch.

We have other exciting events across the term to look forward to including Book Week! More details about Book Week and other exciting things at a later date.

Looking forward to a great term!

Mr Brendan.
