Myuna Farm Excursion

Myuna Farm on  Friday

Last Friday our Garden Club students went to Myuna Farm for a fun day learning about Sustainability and growing plants.

It was a beautiful day which was appreciated by all the students and especially the 'older' students who went.

They started the day by catching a train to the wetlands and go ponding. On the way we passed by thousands of bats who were having their daily sleep among the tree tops. They used nets to fossick in the pond and found many interesting creatures, including damselflies and tadpoles. On the way back from the ponding trip they passed by all sorts of interesting animals including donkeys and llamas.

The next part of the day was to learn about recycling and sustainability. They were a mine of information to the girl from Myuna Farm. She commented on how knowledgeable our students were about Climate Change and recycling.

They were then able to choose a plant and planted it so they could take it home. After that they went to look at the Community Gardens and discover  the names of a variety of plants and vegetables. They found a runaway chook in the gardens but after  exhaustive efforts to catch it found that it was too fast a runner for any of them to catch it.

The next part of the day proved to be the favourite part of the day where they were able to go into the nursery and pat  many animals such as goats, guinea pigs, rabbits, lambs and even snakes.

John our environmental captain was able to hold the python!

As they were making their way to the bus we were able to see some baby guinea pigs that had just been born but 5 minutes ago. What a treat!

REPORT FROM THE ENVIRONMENTAL CAPTAINS

On the 12 of October the Garden Club set of to an excursion to Myuna  Farm. The weather was beautiful  and the sun was out. It was going to be a good day. When we arrived at the farm everyone's face light up with joy. There  was a large  variety of animals and plenty  of them were just wondering around. We got to learn about 'Sustainability' and what happens to plastic bottles. One of the decks was  even made out of billions of plastic bags.

We got to  see  and get up close to lots of animals like goats, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs and many different types of birds. We got to see many different types of plants and got to plant some too. There was a train that took us to the wetlands and we saw some more animals along the way. There were thousands of bats. When we got to the wetlands we went fishing for bugs and learnt a lot about them.We had some time to play on the playground. When we got  back onto  the bus it was nice and cool and back to school we went. Yeah!
