The following will be the focus for each year level this term.

Prep:

Students will focus on literature around the theme of “monsters”.

They will be learning to

Share feelings and thoughts about events and characters in texts.

Identify parts of a book.

Recognise that texts are created by authors who tell stories and experiences that may be similar or different to students’ own experience.

To create/draw a monster using microsoft paint.

Year 1-2:

Students will focus on picture story books written by Margaret Wild.

They will be learning to

Identify the language, characters and events used in texts by Margaret Wild.

Gather information about Margaret Wild by looking at the author’s website.

Create microsoft word documents related to Margaret Wild and stories she has written.

Year 3-4:

Students will focus on the Dewey Decimal System and non fiction books

They will be learning to

Identify subjects and numbers which are part of the dewey decimal system.

Create a powerpoint presentation related to a dewey decimal subject.

Use the school library system to locate books.

Use features of non fiction books to gather information.

Year 5-6:

Students will focus on creating a brochure using microsoft publisher and efficient search strategies

They will be learning to

Use microsoft publisher to create a brochure which gives information about selected picture story books and the Children’s Book Council of Australia.

Use efficient and safe searching strategies when gathering information online.

PERFORMING ARTS.

Prep:

Students will focus on Drama and in particular, Role- Playing. This aspect of drama enables students to experiment with body movement, facial expressions and voice projection.

They will

Pretend to be a character and learn how to move their bodies in different and unusual ways.

Learn that characters can look, think and feel differently from themselves

Understand that facial expressions and voice can be altered to match different characters.

learn that a single character can be represented in different ways.

Year 1-2:

Students will focus on Drama and in particular, Role- Playing. Through role-playing students can begin to think beyond their own view of the world. Characterisation enables students to experiment with body movement, facial expressions, voice pitch/ projection and articulation.

They will

Pretend to be a character, exploring how to move their bodies in different and unusual ways (individually and in small groups).

Learn that characters may look, think and feel differently from themselves.

Use facial expressions and voice to match different characters.

See that ideas for characters can come from lots of different sources.

Years 3-6:

Students will focus on Drama and in particular, Improvisation. Improvisation provides an opportunity for students to view things differently. Immediate (improvised) responses to new situations (scenarios) can challenge previously held ideas and opinions. Improvisation will be used with ‘role-playing’ to further develop characterisation skills.

They will

move their bodies in different and unusual ways both individually and in small groups, in character.

experiment with voice and movement freely (safe risk taking), in character

explore how situations may require a character to look, think, feel and react differently from themselves.

discuss how scenes that are created in drama can help us to learn how to deal with real life situations.

INDONESIAN

Prep:

Students will practise sharing information about their daily routines and build key vocabulary related to their home and school environment.

The students will:

- Participate in interactive activities using Indonesian

- Respond to a simple Indonesian text

- Increase intercultural awareness

1-2:

Students will look into some of the Australian and Indonesian native animals and their natural habitat.

The students will:

- Develop their Indonesian vocabulary related to animals and their environment

- Engage with simple Indonesian texts

- Participate in classroom activities (i.e., games and songs) using Indonesian

3-6:

In connection with our school’s sustainability topic, students will look into the challenges that are faced by the Indonesian people in protecting their natural environment.

The students will:

- Observe Indonesian traditional/sustainable houses and create a model of the house using recycling materials

- Look into deforestation and waste management problems that are happening in Indonesian cities

- Develop intercultural awareness by exploring how the Indonesian local people live

- Practise explaining the process of creating the house model and expressing ideas using the Indonesian language

PHYSICAL EDUCATION (P.E.)

During the first four weeks of Term 4, all Prep - Year 6 students will be practising Sports Day activities, including both track and field events. Years 3 - 6 will explicitly practise 100m and 200m sprints, circular relays, shot put, long jump, tug of war and the obstacle course. Prep - Year 2 will explicitly practise activities that share the above activities' skills. These include the 80m sprint, bean bag throw, fly, shuttle relays, obstacle course and parachute games.

Through the above topics, all year groups will be assessed on their running and leaping fundamental movement skills. After Sports Day, the following teaching and learning units will be focused on:

Prep & Year 1/2: Target Time!

Throughout Term 4, students will further develop their motor skills individually such as the run, kick, overarm throw and two hand strike, and practise combining a range of movement skills in modified games and sports. Students will develop their coordination through the topic Target Time! where they will learn how to improve their aim in throwing, kicking and striking sports and activities. Targets will vary from stationary goals and stumps to moving targets.

Years 3-6:

Throughout Term 4, students will explore the concepts of striking and fielding games in the sports of cricket, baseball, softball and other striking activities. Students will be developing their power and accuracy when performing overarm throwing, two hand striking and side arm striking using a range of batting implements. They will also aim to improve their strategic thinking, communication and cooperation through team games.
