Principal's Message

Dear Parents,
Snuggle with me!
At St. Joseph’s we highlight the need to ‘Make Moments Matter’ everyday with your child. Today we highlight the importance of SNUGGLE WITH ME!
Snuggle with me!
Spending time ensuring our children feel loved, worthy and a strong sense of belonging in both the home environment and school environment is imperative. Our St. Joseph's Positive Education model highlights the need for home to be the first school, school to be the second home and the environment to be the third teacher. The culture we create and surround our children in contributes to their positive sense of self, self awareness, strengths, their self efficacy - belief in their ability to achieve and their self esteem- confidence in one’s own worth or abilities: self respect.
The home environment has a significant impact on a child’s sense of self. Never underestimate the importance of you the parents, the first educators of your children. The home is the first school- you make a difference to the lives and success of your children every day so make moments matter and spend time with your child amplifying their strengths and ensuring they know unconditionally that you love them. This of course does not mean giving into everything your child may want, or allowing them to control you or not showing grit and resilience when things are tough. It means spending time with them talking through issues, building a strong sense of self and belief that they are unique individuals who can achieve great things in life.
On Friday we had a very special liturgy focussed on the scripture verse “ Love one another as I have loved you” . Our year 3/4 learning community led us in prayers, readings and a beautiful reflection seen below encouraging us to be respectful by loving one another and by building each other up and encouraging each other.
At. St. Joseph’s we aim to be a school community that is respectful, encouraging and inspiring.
We value building belief, trust and agency and want to give our students as many opportunities as possible to lead, shine and inspire others.
At St. Joseph’s we have a vision of growing together in Knowledge, Faith and Friendship. We celebrate our faith by living in respect of the dignity of every person in our school. We believe that every person in our school is made in the image of God and is perfect and brilliant.
We focus on the message and life of Jesus on the ground level of who he was and how he lived his life and we walk alongside him and try to follow in his footsteps - this is what we are focussed on in regards to our Catholic faith and we make sure we don’t get distracted from this.
Spirit of St. Joseph’s
Congratulations to Jack, Maddie, Cooper and Hannah who joined me for lunch at the cafe on Friday. These four students were chosen from our Spirit of St. Joseph’s raffle. Tickets are awarded for students’ demonstrating respect, encouraging others and students being inspiring to others.
Congratulations to the following students who were recognised for a special activity in our Spirit of St. Joseph’s raffle this week.
Freya- for being a wonderful positive class member
Aiden- for being a responsible citizen
Paige for being a role model to others
Jacob B for being a great helper when he sees a need
I also congratulate the St. Joseph’s 2019 District swimming team who displayed our vision and positive behaviour approach in so many ways on Thursday. It was a privilege to spend time with these amazing students all encouraging each other to do their personal best in the pool. They were a team of champions showing positive regard for all, cheering loudly and making sure every member of our team knew they were important and valued. They were a living example of faith working for the common good of the team. Thank you to Emily Reed and Megan Williams for your wonderful support and leadership.
