Around the Campus

We welcome our new English teacher - Ms Lucia Hosking
Ms Hosking joined us on Monday 10th May to teach English across the Junior and Senior schools and has already impressed both staff and students. She was asked to inform us of her employment history, professional learning, hobbies and preferred travel destinations. Here are her responses:
- I consider teaching to be an integral part of my identity, and as a first-generation refugee from Romania, I have felt first-hand the power of education to transform lives and entire communities. My time at Narre Warren South P-12 College was a transformative experience, where the breadth of students and opportunities helped put faces to the ideals I aspire to, proving to me, in a very visceral way, the power of a good teacher, a kind word, a safe place for students and teachers alike. Maranatha Christian School afforded me the opportunity to experience an education setting that prioritises building Christ-like character in students and partnering with home and church to help disciple young people in their faith.
- I completed the Leading Literacy course at Bastow Institute in Melbourne, and recently, the Teaching for Understanding course through Harvard Graduate School of Education.
- Alongside my passion for teaching, I am an avid reader and have been known to walk and read at the same time (I have since learnt my lesson, and now, do glance up occasionally). Like many English teachers, I also love to write and have begun writing a novel. I have been lifting weights for almost five years and really enjoy the challenge of setting goals and the sense of achievement involved in staying fit and hitting that 100kg deadlift.
- Rarotonga, Cook Islands is truly the epitome of paradise on Earth. My husband is from the Cook Islands, and his parents have built an amazing restaurant on the beach called Charlie’s. We visit yearly, and my two little girls love to play amongst the coconut trees and swim in the turquoise lagoon.
Welcome to our College Ms Hosking we hope you enjoy being a part of the De Mazenod family.
