Two of the YR 10 Social Justice Captains, Stanislaus Simanto and Nikhil Perera presented at the College Assembly last week. They outlined the approach we are building on in 2021 as we follow the example of Jesus Christ and strive to consider the dignity of all people. By using St Eugene de Mazenod as our guide, we live out the Oblate charism of building a ‘just’ society through our actions.

As a group and as a College community we look to:

SEE - the issues affecting people around us;

THINK - about the factors contributing to the situation and

ACT - to respond with practical support to recognise the dignity of a person, no matter who they are, where they live, what their story may be or how big or small they are

- we want to live out the Gospel message of ‘love one another as I have loved you’.

Our projects seek to address issues across a range of local, national and global concerns. Coming up we will produce a local response of action with the Year 10 Winter Sleepout to understand the issue of homelessness; explore the national relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples during National Reconciliation Week; and as global citizens, we will work in solidarity with the Oblates to continue to raise funds to support their missions overseas.

Each Homeroom is represented by a Social Justice Captain to keep them informed of our actions and ways to get involved. All the information about Social Justice and Service at Mazenod is on the Mazcom tile (follow the links from the Co-curricular tile) or click on the link below.  You can speak to your Social Justice Captain too.
