This is the midpoint of the term for many students and the midpoint for our Year 12 students final school year is fast approaching. I have been reviewing student progress all week and will begin with phones calls to parents of Certificate III in Agriculture students next week, so we can support students who are at risk of falling behind. I am happy to email individual student progress matrixes to any parent, please request these directly from me. All students are provided with the matrix on a regular basis so they are not a difficult document to ask your child to produce.

There are parent interviews scheduled for early next term so we will review student reports and ensure parents are well informed as to where their child is positioned with their learning programs in all year groups.

I will endeavour to contact all parents where concerns have been noted by our staff on the Farm, but I always welcome contact from parents who are likewise closely monitoring their child’s progress at any stage of their educational journey.

Certificate III Advanced Wool Handling

Congratulations to the 17 successful students who applied for the Certificate III in Advanced Wool Handling Qualification. Their names have been listed in the HAC Chat.

These students will need to be available to complete this course in Week 7 of Term 4 which is the week when most of our Year 11 students have since finished school for the year. This week is called “Invitation Week” and is designed to be an opportunity to both extend and support student learning after their compulsory schooling (22nd – 26th November).

World Skills Competition

I have recently listed information in the HAC Chat in regards to an opportunity for Year 12 students to attend the upcoming “World Skills”. Harvey Ag College has the opportunity to send two students to compete in the Agricultural Section of the World Skills Competition as we finished equal first with Cunderdin Ag College at Farm Skills in 2019.

As with most of these opportunities, students interested are asked to apply in writing and address the attached “Performance Criteria” which relate directly to the competition events. All accommodation, meals and team clothing will be provided to the successful applicants. This is a wonderful opportunity that should be considered by all Year 12 Agriculture Focused students. Mr Watt, Mr Howell and Mr Dyson will review and rank applications once they have closed on Thursday 27 May at 12:30pm.
