Prep 

LI: To represent different emotions through movement.  

Learners will be exploring simple dances, expressing what they enjoy and why. They will use their expressive skills to emote with body language .

 

Year 1

LI: To use facial expressions and body language to communicate an idea.  

Learners will be communicating ideas about themselves and their world to an audience through varied use of body language.

 

Year 2

LI: To explore choreographic devices when practising a short dance sequence. 

Learners will be learning about fundamental locomotor and non-locomotor movements, body parts, bases and zones to explore, improvise and structure movement ideas for dance.

 

Year 3

LI: To combine technical and expressive dance skills in rehearsal 

Learners will be using the elements of dance to communicate ideas. They will use production features, such as costume and props to communicate specific ideas and feelings.

 

Year 4

LI: To communicate the intentions behind dance choreography 

Learners will be structuring dance sequences, using the elements of dance and choreographic devices to share ideas and intentions. They will further develop movement accuracy, projection and focus.

 

Year 5

LI: To combine elements of dance, such as body, energy and space to engage an audience 

Learners will be rehearsing the combination of fundamental movements with varied use of  dynamics, relationships and space. They will develop an understanding of forms and elements through viewing and responding.

 

Year 6

LI: To describe characteristics of a dance through context (historical, social or cultural) 

Learners will be investigating characteristics of dances from different social, historical and cultural contexts and discussing how these influence their dance making. They will create dance sequences that convey distinct narratives and concepts.
