Student Targeted Enrichment Program

STEP Bowls

The Kingswood High School Bowls program kicked off to a great start earlier this year, with two of our bowlers having some good results in the Sydney West Singles Championships. Jayden L(Yr 10) finished in 4th position and has earned a position at the NSWCHS Singles & Pairs Championships at Warilla in June. Michael M (Yr 7) was able to win two games and tie another, which earned him 12th position in Open competition. It was a great experience for the boys, as the field had multiple U18 State Champions.

In March, Jayden L and Cleopatra B (Yr 10) represented Werrington Zone at the Sydney West Championships. This was Cleopatra’s first bowling event, and she was able to show her newly acquired skills from the STEP program. Jayden’s performances led to his selection in the Sydney West side to compete in the NSWCHS Sides Championships at St John's Park.

In the Sydney West section of the Statewide Competition (formerly known as Knockouts), Kingswood High was represented by Jayden, Cleopatra and Michael. Their only loss was against the State’s reigning Bronze medallists. They have qualified for the CHS Finals Series to be held at Tamworth in August!

Bowls NSW introduced a new Inter-Schools Challenge with several events in the Greater Sydney area and throughout the State. As part of this innovation, teams were only allowed to have one registered bowler. Kingswood High was able to introduce eight new players to the game, and they did this with great success! Kingswood finished 3rd and 4th on the day, defeated only by the current Sydney West Champions Blaxland High, and Nepean CAPA High, who boast the No. 1 female U18 bowler in NSW. 5 girls have now requested to join the STEP program, and we are looking forward to developing some Champions! Lynette H actually won the driving competition with Sophie P coming 3rd.

STEP Music

The STEP Exceptional Performers program has been a very exciting inclusion to the music opportunities offered to our talented KHS students in 2021. We have 14 very talented musicians featured in our program, and they have been working hard during their Tuesday afternoon classes to enhance their skills and performance presence.

On Thursday 27th and Friday 28th May, we had our first open concerts to show off the students’ newly acquired skills. The KHS community showed great support by turning out in large numbers to admire their friends’ abilities, and it was wonderful to see how far our performers have come since the start of the year!

Congratulations to Abdeen, Abdullah, Amy, Calum, Jack, Kadeeja, Keturah, Kim, Liam, Nathan, Neil, Ryan and Toby on their wonderful performances! We are very proud of you and can’t wait to see how much you will continue to improve!
