Week 7 Term 2

Dear Parents and Carers,

Once again, we find ourselves in the situation of lockdown because of the current outbreaks of COVID-19 in our communities. As a result of Thursday’s announcement by the Victorian Government, all Victorian schools will move to a period of remote and flexible learning from Friday 28 May to Thursday 3 June inclusive.

The wellbeing of families, children and parents is the priority to us at St Fidelis.  It is most important that families take care of each other. All families and individuals in families will act and respond to this pandemic differently.

In the Wellbeing section of today’s newsletter, Sally Lentini (Wellbeing and Learning Diversity Leader)  has provided many videos and articles to support families during COVID. Please take a moment to read this page.

Last Friday, the teachers met to plan and prepare for remote learning for the next few days. All Year levels would have received a letter via email outlining the expectations and procedures for the next four days. I have inserted the link to the letter for you once again.

Learning at St Fidelis

Each week in our newsletter, families are able to discover the many learning opportunities that are to take place in the week ahead or to reflect on the learning that has occurred in the previous week.Take a moment to read the ‘What’s Happening in the Learning Spaces’ section of the newsletter to gain further insights into your child’s learning and take up the opportunity to dialogue with your child about this. Your dialogue might be to focus on one of the Learning Assets as a way to nurture further lifelong learning.

When reading the ‘What’s Happening in the Learning Spaces’ section, note also the extra curricula learning opportunities that are provided through, Visual Arts, Italian, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), Physical Education and external providers that come to our school to engage students in music tuition. Specialist staff provide a particular expertise in their area and the time and opportunity for learners to experience further, the acquisition of skills and dispositions in a variety of contexts.

Parent Teacher Conversations – June 17 (Parent or Carer Only) 1:00pm - 7:00pm

For 2021, parents will have the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher in a 15-minute time slot to:

  • Share their child’s academic progress and growth based on classroom observations, assessments, workbooks and samples of their child’s learning
  • Further, discuss with parents or carers about their child’s strengths, needs behaviours and learning styles in order to continue to learn more about their child.
  • Discuss extension or intervention opportunities provided  to support their child’s learning
  • Discuss issues that may be interfering with their child learning and growth

Further information and booking details will be published closer to the date.

A celebration of learning will be organized for Term 3, where the children will have an opportunity to share their learning with their families. More details about this will be published later this term.

Have a lovely week and stay safe,

Manuela
