Assistant Principals' Report

Victoria the Education State

This week marks the introduction to Victoria as the Education State. As part of this scheme the Victorian Government have made it clear that we as a State value education and all students have a right to access an education system where all Victorians have access to education and opportunity regardless of background or location. The key reforms are increased equity funding across all schools and the development of teacher capacity around Victoria. Expertise will be developed in educating students with a disability. At Concord we are very excited by this prospect and are keen to continue to develop our staff so that they in turn can assist your children to ‘be the best they can be’.

This reform comes about just after the release of ‘The Victorian Curriculum’. In 2016 Concord School will be using the Victorian Curriculum to deliver curriculum content. The review of curriculum documents across Australia identified a need to ensure that all students could access the curriculum to prevent any prejudice or discrimination. Victoria have addressed this need and added pre-foundation content for all curriculum areas. This means that all students in Victoria can access the same curriculum documents even if they are not yet meeting the end of first year requirements. We at Concord are very excited by this addition as it is now possible to have consistent practice across the school. We look forward to the implementation of the new curriculum and the opportunities that our students will take from this new reform.

Meet the Staff

In this edition of 'Meet the Staff' we speak with Nikki Long

What is your role at Concord School?

Discovery Centre Technician

Provide us with a ‘snapshot’ into your daily routine at Concord School.

My day involves timetabling and setting up activities and lessons for classes coming into the Discovery Centre, assisting those classes and teachers by helping students and showing them how to use resources. I also take responsibility for creating major displays such as “The Rainforest” display in the MILE Room (Multi-sensory Interactive Learning Environment)

What do you love most about working at Concord School?

If You Could Pick Any 3 People as Dinner Guests, Who Would They Be and Why?:

Amy Poehler for the laughs. She is one of my favourite comedians/actresses.

Stephen Fry for the intelligent conversation. He has an interesting perspective on the world and any type of discussion with him would be a very unique experience.

Jamie Olivier for the food. I think he seems like a fun person to be around however there would also be an expectation that he would cook a five course meal with enough for leftovers the next day.
