KSKK Visit to Fairhills

On Monday 31st July, 4 Japanese students and their leader arrived at Melbourne Airport ready for a two and a half week exchange experience at Fairhills.  Their visit is arranged through the organisation KSKK. In a reciprocal visit 4 Fairhills students will travel to Japan in September.

Despite it being way colder than the hot Japanese Summer, the students were straight into activities at Fairhills, joining two Maths classes and a Japanese class and they enjoyed a welcome lunch with our International Students.

We thank the host families who cared for them during their stay.

Activities

Well it's been a whirlwind visit for the Japanese students from KSKK.

They have been to KIOSC and learned how to program robots...all in English. As an aside, the Year 7 students who they accompanied are to be congratulated on their behaviour and attitude. Even the canteen lady at Swinburne commented on this!

The Japanese students have visited two of our local primary schools, giving the students there a rare opportunity to experience Japanese culture first hand, and use their Japanese.

A very cold but fun day was spent down at Phillip Island seeing koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, and of course the penguins. A day by the sea couldn't be spent without eating fish and chips for the first time. Our German language assistant Anna joined us, making it a truly international experience. Mio our Japanese language assistant enjoyed the trip as well.

A bus tour to the Mornington Peninsula was also a highlight, with Arthurs Seat providing a view across the bay that are second to none.

Friday was spent at Queen Victoria Market with host students and students who will go to Japan on the school trip. There was lots of shopping and eating, and then it was down to Hosier Lane to check out the graffiti. Just a note; the police van on the right wasn't there for us! The students were actually a delight to take out for a day.

Farewell to KSKK visitors

We farewelled the Japanese students from KSKK on the day it also happened to be Kohei's birthday, so we all tucked into some decadent early morning cake to celebrate. Thank you so much to the school community, and in particular host families for making them so welcome.
