Congratulations - Anything Goes 2017

Wow! What can I say? This year’s musical production of ‘Anything Goes’ was outstanding. Our students here at Fairhills are really growing as young performers and all the staff involved in the musical couldn’t be more proud.

It all began in December 2016, the production team and I were trying to find a musical that would suit our talented students and engage the audiences. ‘Anything Goes’ and a few others were thrown around the table. I’d done the musical before as a performer and knew how entertaining and wonderful it could be. Then the planning began for all the auditions. They were a huge success and  it was very difficult to cast, as a large number of students marched in and sung their little hearts out.

Auditions were over and we had the tricky job of casting this show. Students kept knocking on my office door – “When will we find out?” “We can’t wait any longer”… Cast went up one week later. Students all flocked to the Performing Arts Office to see their name on the board. What a great cast we have!

Rehearsals began in March 2017 and it was full steam ahead. Everyone was excited and it took us 6 months to create the show. Parents have been outstanding and coming to all the rehearsals to make costumes, build sets and help in any other way they can. We can’t thank them enough. The Mummery Family in particular went above and beyond for this musical.

My Production Team, Ben Heels, Suzi Pedler, Triana Meagher and Luke McCallum – what an amazing bunch of artists and teachers. Thanks to them for their support and assistance over the last year and looking forward to many more productions together.

The show was performed in the schools Performing Arts Centre, first in front of the local primary schools on Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd August. We had a great response from the primary school students and inviting them to participate in a Question and Answers with the cast. Always a fun highlight.

Then it was show time.... Opening Night was Thursday 24th, with another two shows on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th August. We had great audiences on all three nights. Nearly selling out for Friday. Audiences walked out tapping their feet at interval after hearing the classic song ‘Anything Goes’. They were again wowed in the second act with some outstanding performances from all the cast.

The whole process this year was wonderful and a real highlight of the school year. This was my first year as Musical Producer, and I’m looking forward to many more years to come.

The ship has set sail or sunk, so let’s bring on the planning for the next musical. Auditions will be held over the next few weeks, as it’s planning on being spectacular.
