Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Students & Staff

The first half of Term 3 has flown by with a wonderful array of events and activities involving students, staff, parents and community members.  It began with our annual KSKK visit of four students and their accompanying teacher from Yoshimi Sugiura in Japan and this was followed by the arrival of  two students from our sister school in Eisugakkan. The Eisugakkan students will be with us for 4 weeks and are enjoying working in our Year 10 classes. Once again, we wish to thank all host families for making these visits possible. Thank you also to Jessica Winstone (Head of Languages) and the Language Team for their hard work in ensuring these visits are a huge success.

The Performing Arts area continues to shine. The Instrumental Music staff and students have had a very big couple of weeks including the highly successful and entertaining midyear concert at Swinburne Auditorium followed by a very prestigious performance for our politicians at Parliament House.  Months of blood, sweat and tears have culminated in five fantastic performances of the school musical, ‘Anything Goes’.  The props for this year’s show were spectacular as were the sound, staging and lighting. The performance by the cast was just superb and we are all very excitedly looking forward to next year’s production- ‘Chicago’.

Despite the cold and inclement weather, our Sports Staff have continued to train teams and accompany these students on successful interschool sport events. The Outdoor Education students have been out climbing rocks as part of their VCE course with canoeing and caving excursions on the horizon.

The Science Faculty celebrated Science Week with an array of fun and funky tasks held across the week of 14 -18th August.  Activities included crazy soda fountain experiments and fun and games with spheros and homemade fidget spinners.

The Humanities area continues to be the hub of fundraising with the Year 9 Global students undertaking their local based projects for needy charities.  Not to be outdone, the VCAL and Business Management students have been organizing a range of events as part of their assessments and these include Market Days and Movie Nights.

Visitors to the school may have noticed that work has finally begun on repairs to the roofing and drainage systems. This will be a welcome relief for staff and students whose locker areas and walkways were subject to periodic minor flooding.  Plans are underway for a major working bee in early Term 4 and the school will shortly welcome the addition of a vegetable garden compliments of the VCAL students.

Finally, we wish to thank all families and staff who have participated in our VCE Information Evenings,  Thailand Trip and USA Basketball Trip Info nights as well as our recent Parent, Student, Teacher Interview sessions.
