New EAL Staff

We would like to welcome Ms. Annette Davis and Ms. Tanele Spiteri to the EAL Team.  Ms. Nicole Jowett and Ms. Erin Favero are also continuing their work with us in 2016, with Ms. Felicity Hemiak as the EAL Coordinator and Ms. Yvette Medina as the MEA.  One of the team’s biggest aims is to support the EAL student’s with the upskilling of their literacy and numeracy skills.

 

EAL Tutorial Group

Due to the success of our reading program last year, we are continuing our EAL Tutorial Group in 2016.  Volunteers from the Brookfield Lifestyle Retirement Village come on Mondays –Wednesdays to help with our 2 to 1 reading conferences, while Ms. Hemiak and Ms. Medina teach literacy and SWPBS on Thursdays and Fridays.

 

VICSEG Scholars for 2016

We are on our third year with the VICSEG Multicultural Student Engagement Project and Scholarship, and we would like to congratulate the following students for receiving a spot this year: Hannah Mamo (9.3), Sakir Nawaz (9.4), Asyai Luk (11.2), Sharie May Castillo (11.4), Christine Papalii Seu (11.6), Anyieth Mabiei (11.6) and Delsey Hiram (11.6).

 

Mentoring meetings are facilitated by Abraham Jongroor from VICSEG, two youth worker mentors from Victoria University, and Ms. Medina every Monday after school till 4:30pm in the EAL room. The scholars have just set their milestones for the year, and are planning for the upcoming Cultural Diversity Week next month.

 

CALD Haven

CALD stands for Culturally And Linguistically Diverse. We run CALD Haven every lunch time in the EAL room with various activities aimed at helping CALD students improve their academic, extra-curricular and social skills.
