Tomorrow's Leaders For Sustainability

'Tomorrow's Leaders for Sustainability' is a program where an EcoCentre educator worked with the Sustainability  Leaders and our Year 5/6 SRC's for a whole term, guiding them through sustainability curriculum, leadership activities, sustainability projects and spending time helping them investigate our local environments.

Our Educator was Sharron Hunter and worked with us to get the school garden up and running again.

We would like to say a special thank you to Sharron for her time and effort as well as the Mayor of Bayside, Mr Michael Heffernan for making the time to come to our school to present our Tomorrow's Leaders for Sustainability group with their certificates.

Over the last two terms we have been in the “Tomorrow Leaders For Sustainability” program.

We have been working with Sharron who has taught us many things about the environment about plants and about our future.

In the first few weeks we learnt which plants go well together. Then we did an activity where we looked at different cultures like Africa and Australia.

We also looked at how to reduce our plastic use and how to work together in groups with people we may prefer to not be with.

Later we went outside and started getting places ready to plant. We pulled out weeds and added fresh new soil.

Some of the new plants we plants were beetroot and leeks.

It was really fun and good to learn about.

We really appreciate all the time and effort Sharron put into helping us learn and we say a huge thank you to Sharron.

Sharron

Firstly, We would all like to thank our lovely Port Phillip EcoCenter learning educator, Sharron for helping us learn more about the Eco friendly lifestyle.

We have planted several different types of fruits and vegetables and are excited for them to grow. Sharon has done an 8 week program and we have contributed every Tuesday afternoon.  Sharron has driven from St Kilda to help us and has something new for us to do every week. Although we have only done this for a short time we have still learnt a lot. Sharron goes and does this at so many schools around Melbourne and tries so hard. I know we had a lot of fun doing it and we really hope that future generations get to work with Sharron.

Mayor Michael Heffernan

As a school we would like to thank Michael Heffernan our Bayside Mayor for coming and handing out the certificates to our participants. We appreciated him giving us some of his  important time to come to St Agnes and celebrate our achievements.
