From the Principal

Late Attendance- Many Thanks

Many thanks to all the parents for making a super effort to get their children to school before the end of the music. I know mornings are really busy times and can be rather challenging. This allows our teachers to begin instruction as soon as the roll has been marked and our students to settle quickly and receive the specific instructions necessary to begin an activity.

We would also like to ask that  parents do  not collect their child/children from school early unless they have an important appointment or family emergency.

The New Oval is Really Progressing

The new oval is really moving- The excavating (removal of large amounts of top soil) has been completed and the drainage is close to completion. The students have adapted extremely well to the smaller outside space and have enjoyed the additional activities that have been provided. Great job everyone.

Uniform

There are still a couple of students wearing Skorts on a daily basis . Please note that these are not part of the Rollins school uniform and are only to be worn on special sports days eg Athletics days, interschool sports days.Copies of the uniform policy that has been endorsed by school council can be found  on our website.

Parking Illegally

We have received a number of residential complaints  stating that cars are being parked across nature strips and covering driveways. The Geelong City Council has been patrolling the area recently. I know parking is really difficult around the school but please respect residential properties and park in a safe manner. We have also asked residents in the area to park on their own property where possible so this frees up car parks for staff and parents. Thanks  everyone for your support in this matter.

School Camp Grade 3/4

Everyone seemed to be have had a wonderful time at the Cave Hill Creek Camp- although they all looked rather tired on Wednesday afternoon on return (especially the teachers!). I was pleased to hear the students recalling how much fun they had and what challenging activities they participated in. I would like to sincerely thank my staff who kindly rearranged their home life commitments so they could attend camp and care for our students 24/7. Also thanks to the teachers at school who took on extra responsibilities to enable the camp to proceed.

Student Requisites

School Council has set Parent Payments for 2020 at the following:

$165 per child or

$110 with a valid Health Card which must be presented at the office.

We would appreciate  payment by Friday 13th December 2019. All pre-paid book packs will be delivered to the children in their classrooms on the first day of Term One 2020.

Parents are also invited to make a donation to the school for the our new oval seating area and shade cloth if they wish. This donation is tax deductible and would be very much appreciated as we are focusing on our oval and building facilities in 2020.

Many Thanks.

Fun at Rollins

I was walking down to check on the oval last week and I past this group of students at PE with Hayley Womersley. It was fantastic to see these students really enjoying themselves- Learning can be lots of fun!

New Buildings

We have been working solidly with the Department of Education and the architects to finalise plans for the new buildings in Wing A. Unfortunately, access and changes to the underground services will delay us until Term 1 holidays. The buildings will be demolished in the Term 1 vacation holidays .We anticipate final completion by the end of the financial year(June 2020).

I would like to thank Erin McGill, our school Council President, for making the time to attend all these meetings.

Principal's Pondering

A Growth Mindset message...

Research has explained a growth mindset as ‘a willingness to confront challenges, viewing failure as a springboard for growth, and a passion for learning. Not surprisingly, this type of mindset is strongly linked to greater happiness and achievement in life.’ Children who are happy, comfortable, safe and confident have a greater outcome with learning and socialising.

Here’s a child friendly video as made by one of our communication apps, Class Dojo, that explains it brilliantly. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zrtHt3bBmQ
