Our Learning - Clarity

St Brigid's School Learning

In our last newsletter, I shared about our work in Clarity. This week I want to share with you some information about  Learning Intentions and Success Criteria.

Learning intentions tell children what they are learning and why they are learning it, while success criteria gives them the way to achieve their learning. Success criteria can become a useful and meaningful self-assessment tool.

A way to support our students to understand their learning intentions and success criteria student have reference use of visuals for students to reference.  Depending on the subject area and unit, learning intentions and success criteria may be the same for the term or may change every few weeks.

Students construct the Learning Intentions and Success Criteria with their teacher and teachers will refer to the Learning Intentions and Success Criteria when introducing learning in each subject. Constructing the Learning Intention and SUccess criteria gives the students more ownership of their learning and accountability for their goals. Students are more successful when they understand the purpose of what they are learning and can apply it in contexts or ways that interest them.

Next time you are in your child's class, ask them to show you the Learning Intentions and Success Criteria!
