Welcome Babies

It is a very exciting time for Robert and Alicia and their family (Jack is in Foundation), as they have recently welcomed a baby boy Thomas Edward. We hope you enjoy this time getting to know a new family member!

Bochen (Year 2) is now a big brother to a new baby sister Boya, as his family have also welcomed a new baby. Congratulations to parents, Songtao and Linlin.

School Uniform Checks

Over the next few weeks, our staff will be checking whether students are wearing correct uniform. Please ensure your child is wearing the correct items as per our uniform policy when they come to school. Please note the following:

As we are now in the winter months, full winter formal uniform is to be worn. Our winter uniform does not include a mix of summer and winter uniform items.

Jewellery

  • A watch with functionality of telling the time and step counting only may be worn (no smart watches).
  • Earrings – single plain round metal stud or plain sleeper in both ear lobes.

Hair

  • longer than shoulders must be tied back from face (entirely up).
  • hair accessories should be uniform colours.
  • haircuts should be no less than ‘Number 2’.

Shoes

  • Conventional black school shoes (not black sneakers that are sometimes marketed as school shoes) need to be worn.
  • Only students in F-2 may wear black school shoes with Velcro.

Additional items

  • No clothing such as singlets, T-shirts or leggings should be visible under the uniform.
  • Coats and gloves in maroon, blue or grey are optional and for outside wear only and are worn over the school jumper or the Campus sports jacket.

If you have questions about uniform, please contact Kristen Heath or the Front Office staff. Teachers will send parents an email if they notice there are components of the uniform your family needs to address.

Pilgrim School Feedback

We have received feedback from a number of families enquiring about Pilgrim School recently informing us they had seen how well our school was doing on some independent school ranking websites. This is a credit to our students, families and staff as they work in partnership to develop children in all aspects of their education. We love that our students are receiving a solid learning foundation in areas of literacy and numeracy as well as flourishing with skills for emotional regulation, wellbeing, critical thinking and problem solving. On one of the websites we were ranked 11th across the state in the top 100 South Australian schools for primary education. If you would like to have a look at the site, go to https://www.schoolcatchment.com.au/.

Enrolments for 2024

If you know someone who is looking to enrol their child in Foundation for 2024 (either Term 1 or midyear), please encourage them to contact Kristen Heath on 8270 3033 or by email, heathk@pilgrim.sa.edu.au. We currently have 27 students enrolled to start Foundation next year and we are considering starting a waiting list for further enrolments. It would be important for families to complete an application for enrolment as soon as possible to secure a placement for 2024.

Nude Food Update

This week, to celebrate World Environment Day (on Monday 5th June), the Year 3/4 students completed their Nude Food Project at Pilgrim School with a free giveaway of lunchbox containers from their Nude Food stall.

This project was made possible with the successful donation from the City of Onkaparinga Les Perry Memorial Grant for waste reduction. The photos below document the project from inception to completion. The students had to work out a fair way of distributing the containers once they had calculated how many there were to hand out. Students were responsible for distributing the containers to families that had responded to their survey, and for keeping track of the data. In the end, they decided to have a stall to hand out the free containers to interested staff and students. This was a really joyful lunchtime as the class got to experience the wonderful feeling of altruism that comes through making people happy by giving away something worthwhile for free!

We are also conducting a Citizen Science project to examine the interactions between humans and birdlife at Pilgrim School, with the hope that there will be a noticeable reduction in litter around the school.

A big thankyou to everyone who registered to collect containers and who already support a cleaner school environment by using containers in lunchboxes where possible.
