FAITH MATTERS

MS GERRY VYTILINGAM - FAITH IN ACTION COORDINATOR

Year 9 Reflection Day

On Monday 29th May, the Year 9 students participated in their Reflection Day facilitated by the Gen Bryant (GB) Team at The Grain Shed. The GB Team are a group of young people who connect, engage and inspire schools, parishes, and dioceses through their gift of music and sharings of faith.

The theme for the day was centered around social justice, and making a change. Through music, games, activities and reflections, students were invited to participate and consider what their role is in bringing justice to the world, and how they are already enacting this at school. Through song and story, Gen shared about her experiences in working with underprivileged youth, and how that shaped her passion for social justice. The team and staff members led students through a series of rotation activities about equity and equality, social justice initiatives in their school and positive decision making.

Students were invited to reflect on how they, like St Catherine of Siena, can “be who [they] were [created] to be” and “set the world on fire” with their passion, gifts and talents. Some of our own students even took the mic or jumped on the drum kit with the band at the end of the day, which was fantastic to watch!

Special thanks to Gen, Nicole, Monty and Ashen for travelling to Swan Hill and being with our students and staff. Thanks also to Ms Howison, Ms Wright, Mr McDonald, Ms Rogers and Mel Roberts for supporting our students during the day.

Hearts and Hands Appeal

Hearts and Hands Mass is coming up on Monday 19th June! We invite you to donate non-perishable items like canned goods, rice, toiletries and linen for the less fortunate, and underprivileged people in our community.

We ask our college community to donate to St Vincent de Paul as a gesture that the dignity in each one of us spurs a passion into action.

We give with our hands, to the poor and needy.

We think of those who are doing it tough.

We show them the heart of God through generosity.

Homeroom Teachers have been given a selection of families that they can donate towards. Some of these will have younger people, older people etc. Each family represents people from our community who need support. These are people who could be a part of your football or netball club, or even your own class.

Donations can be brought to Pastoral Care on Thursday 15th June, and will be brought up during the offertory at Hearts and Hands Mass on Monday 19th June.
